• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I need a little help with helmet communicators

I would like to get a set of helmet communicators for my wife and I, before we go to any of the rallies this year. I just got an add about Scala Rider G9's, and the price for a pair is 299, is this a good price? Is this a good unit? Does anyone have these? Randy, Ron, Bill, and other NY Spyder Ryders: do you have these units? I am not looking to spend the money right no, but if this is the deal they make it out to be I will. Thanks in advance for the help.

Just sayin'............

I don't have any experience with the Scala headsets but I have had the Sena SMH10's from Motorcycle Dave for a season of riding and they work very well for communication on 1 bike two up or bike to bike. We both have smart phones so we can listen to our own separate music choices. The charge lasts all day and the range is good bike to bike. If you have people you ride with that have bluetooth you want to communicate with you should get the same brand they have. Dave has a dual pack on his site for less than you stated for the Scalas if price is the motivation. Good luck with your choice.

I don't have that one, but I recently bought the Nolan N-COM Bluetooth communicators for my wife and I. For the pair, I paid less than $250. They integrate directly into Nolan helmets, so I'm not sure if that is a requirement or if they fit other helmets.

I have the G9 and love it, the range is good. It has a built in radio. It's also connected to my phone via Bluetooth for listening to music, phone calls and changing settings. I paid 300$ plus for my set.

Tried several over the years.

Sena SMH10 is my suggestion. Upgradeable. The next software promises to be able to communicate with different brands.

Scala G4

My wife and I have Scala G4 units. I think the only big difference from the G9 is that the G9 is capable of communicating with more units than the G4. I am not impressed with the VOX feature on my G4s. It takes a long time to connect and very loud input to activate the mic. My wife has a soft voice and her voice will not activate the mic. We therefore have to manually activate the mic by pressing the button on the side of the unit, and then pressing it again to disconnect. Once connected the sound is clear. We also use MP3s connected via an A2DP adapter. They work pretty well, but sometimes do not reconnect after we use the intercom, and we have to shut them off and start them up again. I am not sure if this is a problem with the Scala unit or the A2DP adapter.

IMO, the best bang for the buck is the Sena SMH10
We have them and love them . $219.00 for the pair on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sena-SMH10D...35594324?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item417af29c54

Have a set of the Scala G4 and they work OK... Next set will give Sena a try. looking for a bit more volume out of next set. Max is not real loud on the Scalas we have.

We have used the Scala G4s for several years now. They work OK but at times the buttons are PITA. I am waiting for the new Sena 20S that is coming out soon. I will then box up the scales and put them in the classifieds. I think the rotary dial is a much better way to go and the 20S will be the new stat of the art communicators!

Just my view. BTW We do not use VOX and keep the Scalas connected 100% of the time.

Great..!!

we have the G9's and love them. Especially the feature of hooking up to other ryders in our group. You can connect to 9 other ryders and communicat while ryding. Range is good and we have phones, gps, radio a nd a hookup for mp3. But there are others. You have a good price but as you can see can't afford to switch around to see which is best. Good luck picking the one best suited for your needs...

For use only as an intercom setup; The Missus and I have been completely happy with the ScalaRider TeamSet-Pro units that we have.
