• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I like the new spyder but another PE......?

I want to retrofit the cruise control on my 2009 SM5.

Not gonna work---- the 'new' 991 engine has electronic controlled throttle (assuming no cables like ours have)--- which is why they can do the cruise easily.

I also doubt the new dash will be compatible --- it's only the digital version on the RT version--- the RS spyders are basically just like what we're riding from what I can tell---- same 998 engine, etc.

Even if they did sell the dash as an option--- can you imagine what BRP would charge for it?

I love the headlights...but the rest is too "Gold Wing old folks" for me. But, at least they added WAY more power with a 991 Rotax! :roflblack:

(isn't the 08-09 engine a 998.6?!)

:agree: it has become very clear that is the direction BRP is taking...:dontknow: it simply took away the sporty look that attracted me to the spyder...:wrong:

:agree: But don't worry bro! You will find this old post of mine illuminating:

Now seriously, if you see the mods of many users of this forum, the market was begging for a more comfortable/larger storage version of the Spyder. I believe BRP responded appropriately.

I just went over to my office window (3rd floor), and looked out into the parking lot at mine. I am very content. :) I do like the 2010 model from the photos. But, for me personally, it is too 'Gold Wing' for my tastes. I'm not into tall windshields. So; the new one would need to go way down for me. And, since I have 18,400 miles logged in just over 11 months, my 2008 as it sits right now is good for my 'touring' purposes. And, I've been out 3 nights with the wife using N-R Bags. A trailer or Givi Bags may be in my near future along with some other goodies.

Now, as has already been mentioned, a 'sport' version might be my next Spyder. But, it's most unlikely I'll ever go full touring.

People like to travel long distances in the open air - the RT meets that need.

Admit it or not but the majority of people in USA are couch potatoes (I being one:().
Time will tell but I would bet that they sell more RTs.

My take is that BRP has designed this RT with a system approach. They did not just add on goodies to our present Spyder as we have. The RT is a well integrated package with many cruising comfort features.

Even a new/different engine-the Rotax 991 model. Greater low end torque than our engine - - better for pulling a trailer.

Allot of people love their Goldwings that cost allot more and I bet there are allot more folks that will love this Spyder once they see it in person and ride it.

Remember our 08/09 Spyder was designed as a Sport Touring Machine and what did many of us do - make it a cruiser: Higher handlebars, highway pegs, stereos, comfort seats, cruise controls, pulling trailers/campers.

Heart sank a bit this morning when I opened the site and saw the new models. I have less than 600 miles on my SE5 so I felt instance buyer's remorse like I should have waited another month or two.

But I agree with most of your that the RT is more Goldwing than Batman. My Phantom SE5 is what James Bond would ride. The RT looks more like something that Bond's great granddad would ride. :D

Though to be truthful the first Spyder I saw in my hometown is owned by a 76 year old which I think is awesome. :2thumbs:

So now there is a Spyder for everyone.

Some nice integrated features. I predicted cruise control.

What do you all think this will do to the secondary market like Corbin? Still think they look way cooler than what BRP has made standard.

I think it was a good direction for an additional model in the series. BRP responded to what many have asked for...and provided much of what many had requested. The pneumatically adjustable rear suspension was on my wish list. For those whose tastes lean toward the full-dress, La-Z-Boy type of motorcycle, this should fill the bill...with the exception of what appears to be an anemic powerplant. Should be a great way to cruise across country two-up. No need for an electric/hydraulic centerstand, either. :D I prefer the sport-touring style, so I will stick with the GS/RS Spyder with the tour pack, but this adds an option to the Goldwings, BMW LT, etc. As far as retrofitting, I hope the heated grips will transfer.

Like the concept - not sure I like the nose but it is growing - not worth the additional cost for me to have a RT vs my SM5. I do see advantages in comfort for ryder and passenger. I like the styling of the bags and top box and backrest for the passenger. Floorboards are great.
But to me not worth the extra money to buy and the added fuel cost.
Spouse may have other ideas about it but I know she is not goiing to spring for 25K for another :f_spider:.

I like the tailer and hitch but at 4500 bit steep for my pocketbook. JMHO

I never foresaw the market for the Spyder with those impaired to riding a traditional two wheeler. If you combine that with the Goldwing/K bike comfort crowd BRP really did something brilliant.

My hope is in the next year or two (after I have some significant miles on my '09 :D), they'll come back to the sport model and give us all the tweaks and toys we deserve.

I really think BRP watched all of us very closely and found out what mods were the most popular. By far - most of the mods done by people were to make the Spyder more of a 'touring' bike. Those that have added Corbin, NMN risers, cruise, throttle lock, removable bags, etc. really have the best of both worlds. We can look sporty and ride hard---- or snap the bags on and be ready for touring.

If I end up with another Spyder in the future--- I would see my current one becoming my 'touring' model --- and adding a faster, sportier version for bopping around town and getting into trouble.:doorag:

I have zero buyers remorse--- hard to put a price tag on these 2 summers of being one of the first owners--- and all the fun and riding we have all had--- not to mention the great people we have met.

I'm looking forward to seeing the RT up close and personal--- really want to see that BLUE in person.

Just left my dealer, Honda of Tulsa. Dropped my bike off for a few little things and its 600 mile first service.

They are salivating at the RT. 10k less than a Goldwing and much easier to ride for many people.

I joked they might be Can Am of Tulsa soon and no one laughed because it might be true! lol

Let's see, I have bags, touring boards, good windshield, backrest/rack, 5 yr warranty, upgraded rims, throttle lock - and don't have $17 into my 2009?

I think the new ones will finally cause the '08s and '09s to sell.....

we ...the elite under 2500 pe know who has the real pe ....:joke::joke::joke::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

With a compression boost from 10.8 to 12.2 and loose power. They really must of cut back on the cam and or valve timing or Efi.
