• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I Just Got A DESS ERROR CODE What Now?

Just got my 2014 ST Limited ready to go to Spyderfest. My wife needed a couple of things for dinner. I just got back and parked it and shut off the Motor. No cool down fan. Im wondering well that has never happened before. Turned the key to restart it and I got the dreaded DESS Code screen.
Switched it off, then back on and it started like normal. Now Im wondering, should I risk going to Spyderfest? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

It was a good thing that you were @ home, when you got the DESS error. Let us know what you decide. Did you see the thread" DESS KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! posted by me( Deanna777)?

It is a long thread, it has some great info. and suggestions. Deanna

Yes, I just did a search on the DESS ERROR and that thread came up first. I only read the first few posts. I thought only RT's got that error.

If you get that code and it goes away, and runs fine the next time, whats the chances that I may get stranded somewhere soon? Like in Springfield in the middle of a thunderstorm? Now I am having second thoughts about going.

It is your choice. Good luck! Deanna

Mine started last week with that error and got worse the second time I parked the bike. I would not take the chance..Have it fixed

Parts are available and can be done in a few hours if it only the DESS module. If its the switch too that's a bigger job

Schedule the repair with Pitbull, go to the event and let them fix it. You may get stuck, but most times, everyone gets a bunch of get out of jail free restarts.

Ill call Richardson Motorsports tomorrow and see what they say. It is out of warranty but since this is an issue with these bikes , maybe they will just fix it.

Last year when I went to Spyderfest, I stayed at the Econolodge. That is where I met Blueknight 911. He had got that error at the hotel had had his Spyder all torn apart in his hotel room.

I have had the DESS module replaced twice( see my thread) and switch replaced once both under warranty. I haven't had the DESS error show up. The dess module/and the switch are under warranty. Be sure that your dealership has the parts there.

Deanna

Latest DESS module part module #710004916.

AND you have to remove the metal Ferrite ring off the old module and put it on the new module. BRP does not have them installed on the new module :banghead:

You have to remove the contacts from the connector to get the Ferrite ring off

:banghead::banghead::banghead:.....You are correct about it mostly being RT's .... I haven't heard on an ST with this issue , but I believe it's the same module !!!! ....... It's a real crap shoot .... some have had it happen and not fixed it for awhile .... I had it and demanded it get fixed even tho they said it started up when they tried it ..... but I did take mine apart so it only took the Tech 5 minutes to swap out the module ......sending :pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray:........................ I was planning to go with Spyder Ryders of East Texas. we have 20 signed up and some are trailoring. If worse comes to worse, I will have help close by.
I just went out and my bike is starting every time now. No error message......BUT.....:sour:

I'm going to Spyderfest

Just had the 5th occurrence of a DESS error. Goes back to the shop when I return from Spyderfest. Module replaced 3 times, but who is counting?

See everyone soon.

Nope,
All Spyders share a similar system. The RT has had more problems reported with it mostly because of their larger numbers and the F3 did not exist until a year later.

Also as reported above, yes, I can turn the DESS off for you if you wish and the problem will be gone permanently. I am in NW Houston.

I had the issue on my 2014 ST and had the module replaced under warranty. I believe it may have happened due to where I parked but I raised enough of a stink that BRP replaced it.

That was almost a year ago and I haven't had a problem since.

Mine had the error twice one day last week. Once it came on in the middle of cranking. I suspected the battery might be going and put a new one on it. I never got the error again after replacing the battery but the warranty runs out next month so I decided to have it looked at.
I called Louis Powersports in Greenville and they said it would be over a month to get it checked out! I called Freedom Powersports in McKinney and they got it in the same day. It is there now waiting for the ignition switch and D.E.S.S. module to come in. Hopefully parts will be there tomorrow.
