• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have a 2014 RT-S and I know the weight limit for riders and gear.

What is the max weight the Spyder can tow? Most small trailers are 145# and up.

Reason being, my daughter asked if my Spyder could tow a single rail motorcycle hauler with her 480# cycle on it.

Towing Capability

This is from the BRP Spec sheet on the web site.

CAN-AM FREEDOM TRAILER CAPABILITY Towing capacity of 400 lb (181 kg)

:agree: 400 pounds...
the Spyder could certainly be hooked up to a heavier load; what'll you do if it gets away from you? :yikes:
I have no doubt, that the engineers who decided on that limit; know more about the bike, than we do...

Pull a bunkhouse trailer over 17000 miles this summer and on problem with a 2012 rts se5. Tradered for a 2014 and plan on doing over 20000 miles this year. Two up and tralier fully loaded ac plus.

Do you happen to know what your bunkhouse weight is? We have been looking at them. Cheaper than hotels and much more fun!

Does "Bunkhouse", also mean, "Bunk Beds"?
That might cut down on some of the potential for entertainment, but the footprint would be minimized! :roflblack:

vehicle carry weight, tongue weight and trailer weight...

Thanks for the specs. I went back and re-read the the manual. The first time I had read the manual, I interpreted that to mean the trailer could hold 400#.

The manual shows a dry weight of 1023#, total vehicle load allowed (including operator,
passenger, cargo and added accessories) 494#. And GVWR of 1499.1#.

Maximum weight on trailer tongue 40#
Maximum towed weight (trailer and cargo) 401#

The lightest single rail trailer I could find was 216#. So adding the bike would put the load about 300 over the manual's stated max.

On a slight tangent, the lightest trailer I could find for cargo was 145#

Depends..!

how far and terrain to travel. Short across town should be no problem but long hauls will be a bit much...:dontknow:

Thank you everyone for the responses.

Mainly for pulling empty when with a large group of riders. Acting as the "sweep" or snatch & grab if another bike breaks.

Comment was made "I don't want any trikes in my line." I am trying to rub the guys nose in it that Spyders:
A) can keep up (In dash down open smooth highway, the only ones in the group able to out-run me were a Busa 1200 and a Busa 1400. I hit 110 mph. It was not a race, just sport bikes trying to show a Spyder was not "sporty")
B) can help and do other stuff besides carry a rider or 2.

2 weeks later a Spyder riding with a larger group from that same club hit 130 mph when they TRIED to leave said Spyder (with mature rider!) in the dust. Note: They were not successful in leaving her behind... :)

Good point. Had not taken that into account.

:gaah: :lecturef_smilie:......I am certain the TONGUE weight from the Motorcycle will far exceed 40 lbs ..................This is not a problem for a car or truck , but NO way for a Spyder ....JMHO.................Mike

Good point.

Back to looking...

Time for a change...

And what will these smart(dumb) azzes have to say when they get old and have bad knees? I think I would find some nicer folks to ride with.

pulling a trailer

I know I'm going to hear from the naysayers and the know-it-alls but I have logged in over 13k miles with my Trailmaster Aspen , that when loaded with all our gear comes in around 430 lbs. I have had no problem what so ever , riding in rain, mud, snow you name it , and this comes from real experience , not something I read online or in a book . My wife pulls a dog trailer 250 lbs. add the 45 lb. English Setter and you never even know its back there. The only thing it effects is the gas mileage , and you want to take the corners with some common sense . It does not seem to take any more room to stop either.

Have you ever looked into brakes on the trailer and adding a brake controller to the Spyder?
