• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sadly passed away, December '23.
I had to pick up a prescription from Fairchild AFB in Airway Heights WA today. I also needed to stop by the Commissary and restock our meat locker. It was such a nice today, I figured I'd throw in a ride. I was northbound on Hayford RD approaching the intersection with Highway 2 in Airway Heights, WA. I had moved into the left hand turning lane to get on Highway 2.

Thankfully there was no traffic backed up in the right hand lane, which afforded me a quick escape route, otherwise I would most surely have taken a hit from this numbskull. I edited out my colorful commentary on this guys driving.

Wowzers! Close call indeed. Good thing you weren't going that fast. That quick turn to the right would have been much worse. I'm really glad you made it out of that one. That guy did not see you at all!
 
Not a surprise. Running code in a fire truck, guy ran a stop sign and broadsided me. Said he didn't see me.... Guess he didn't hear me either.

It seems that if you're within about 30 metres & closing range on a steady bearing, the boffins tell us that about 98.9% of the driving population simply won't register you, no matter how many lights you have shining &/or flashing; what colour you may be wearing; or even, albeit to a lesser extent, what size you may be! :shocked: . Apparently, it's all a hangover from our ancient ancestors & the ONLY REAL way around it is to be fairly quickly changing bearing as you approach, ie. weaving in your lane, or better yet, moving reasonably quickly ACROSS their line of sight. :banghead:

Of course, that still only works IF they bother to cast said 'line of sight' in your direction, but for most who still have some left, anything moving quickly across their peripheral vision is still more noticeable than something closing rapidly on a stead bearing! ;) .

But you can't do anything about the people who JUST DON'T BOTHER LOOKING! :mad:

So I'm glad you had room & time to avoid, and manage to do so safely? Did the driver even look embarrassed or maybe a bit sheepish when you stopped at the lights/turn?? :dontknow: Couldn't see anything but the edges of the car in your mirrors...
 
I agree with you BajaRon cause I don't know how many near misses I had with a squad car with lights and siren activated. Here in Minnesota a 16 year old kid pulled out from a stop sign turned left in front of a motorcycle and killed the rider. People don't see us and have way too many distractions when they drive.

Our Spyders are a good bit bigger then some bikes, but they still don't see us. I had to do something similar just this past Sunday.
 
Fortunately as I was moving into the the turning lane from a good distance to the intersection, I could see the left turn arrow was already Green. I knew I would not make that Green light, so I had already begun to slow down. The driver didn't make any attempt to mitigate his stupidity, but he did leave a wide berth between us at the light and never tried to pass me after we made our turn. Like the man said, you have to ride like you're invisible because to many drivers you are.
 
A couple of weeks ago a suv that was at a stop sign on my right pulled in front of me at the last second. Luckily I had time to jam the brakes and come to a complete stop with no one behind me. I tracked the driver down and explained I could have just been killed they said " I know, I'm sorry". How do you not see a 2015 Pearl White RTS? I'm now running high beams all the time. Next will be some lime green front wrap. The old " I didn't see them" gives people a free pass to take out anyone on a bike with no consequences.

So glad you were quick and knew it was coming. Maybe another reason to light up our bikes ALOT. I have 2 10 watt LED driving lights mounted on the fixed wind deflectors ( mirror height) on the :spyder2: and one on the poor, old, slow V-Max in hopes to be seen better from the front. I do see lots of Beemer riders with bright yellow driving lights which are quite visible.

Good job knowing and having an escape route. Glad you survived that idiot. I looked at the video frame by frame to see if the driver even LOOKED YOUR WAY and could not see if that happened. Way too many people driving distracted and/or no situational awareness. Like Monk (the old TV sit-com) used to say: "It's a jungle out there"..... Jim
 
Too close for comfort if you ask me. You have to have 1,000 eyes when driving a car but you have to have 1 million eyes when you ride a bike.
 
After riding bikes for over 50 years, it has saved my ass many times driving a car.
People are idiots.
Had one make a right hand turn from the left hand turning lane in front of me.
