• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I got bitten by the chrome and paint bug

I said I wasn't gonna do any more mods, I mean I am so thankful for having so many carefree miles, the last time I had an issue while I was get-tin my Corbin seat installed 300 miles from my house I got a tank of bad gas, ( and thought the world was gonna end) It turned out that my Spyder tech at the dealership made the correct call, ( who woulda thunk ) after riding out the bad gas the next 2500 miles have been great.

So then I read DaBusses post about him chroming his bike and that looked beautiful and then what followed was Lamonster doing his on a weekend where it rained and snowed. And both of these gentleman said it was a major labor intensive job. For me a major job is putting air in my tires :p They posted photos and it was looking awesome and I justified that I would only get the upper and lower Wing Deflectors for my RTS. Well one thing led to another and I got a great deal on the handle bars installed and chose to have some of the aluminum parts painted body matching timeless black color instead of chromed to save on money not just for the part but for the install time.:yikes: When my Tech installed the handlebars with my garmin 660 already there it required them to completely re snake the whole unit(another 2 hours to the job that I already had quoted at 4 hrs ( that Lamont said was very fair) So for those that are gonna have your dealership install please get it in your written estimate so they stay true and you don't pay for their learning curve.;)

So I went to 4 body shops (two of which had previously done work on other vehicles I own) and only one said he would not work on a motorcycle.(Corporate policy) . Actually they all at first said no to a motorcycle until they saw the Spyder and I told them it was a Roadster :D The other 3 were independent shops and gave me quotes for painting the Windshield Support in body matching paint and the Foot peg support castings. Both of these parts retail for $ 799.98 + tax, and that doesn't include labor. So when I got t quotes of $250 to $550 I jumped on the $250 offer. The Body shop removed the windshield and the bracket windshield support to paint. They painted and put in the bake booth and installed back the next day. The Foot Peg Casting Support sits low on the bike and I was having Seal Floorboards that were gonna block half of the casting support from much of the road debris elements. Many here have powder coated which is preferred but costs more and you have to remove the part and wait to have re installed. So if my matching body paint doesn't hold up when I get back from Spyderfest then I will consider this. I so much, let me repeat this, I SO much Like the blacked out lower look to the bike. For me given a choice that everything (PRICE) was equal, preferred the way my project turned out  I also had the brake pedal painted which saved me an additional $129.99. Since this was an auto (SE5) I did not need to purchase or paint a Shift Lever ($99.99)

Now the only down side I discovered is that the windshield already had some wear marks where the dust/dirt debris had acted like sand paper from just normal vibration. On a silver aluminum background I hadn't much noticed. But now on a timeless black paint it sticks out like a sore thumb. Actually looks like it is the paint which it is not. So my choices are to get a new windshield or remove and buff this windshield to see if I can remove these 10 thousand tiny little scratches. These would have been there with the chrome instead of painted parts too. :( I will first try to remove and cross my fingers I can fix it or worst scenario is to replace windshield.

So now your ready to see the photos, I will try to take better ones outside in the light.

In a final review the body shop (which I payed in cash cuz I felt bad it was more work than what they foresaw)
( and i also promise I will bring them high quality cup cakes as a treat) :firstplace:would
probably charge a little more, as it was more labor intensive, as I also had them paint the existing passenger boards and foot pegs.
