• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Well, the last post i made on this forum months ago was how i lost my only key for my spyder and was going to have to buy a whole new ignition, well i happened to find the Spare key that had been misplaced. Now if only the weather would give me a warm day where i can take the spyder to the dealer to have the 2 spare keys i'm getting made..

Why wait..??

if it is not a 14 you can get it done at a good key shop. I got mine at kwick keys $35.00 each. Glad you found one saves a bundle...:2thumbs:....

That's true but it is a hassle to find the right blank and a locksmith to clone it. At $35 each those were really pricy keys. For a few bucks more you may as well get BRP ones.

Last I checked at cheapcycleparts.com the oem key is $49.95 un programmed. Dealers are even more and the programming is not cheap either. Blanks are for the Aprilla motorcycles and $7 to $12 bucks online. But shopping around you can find better deals..ebay has ignition switch with keys for $42.00... $35.00 blank and cloning still a good deal....

I ordered two of the Aprilla keys from e-bay last week, I got them on Sat. and took them to my local Ace Hardware yesterday and got them cut and cloned. As soon as I got home I took them out to the :spyder2: and they both worked perfectly starting the :spyder: The two keys cost me $8.00 a piece and the man at Ace didn't charge me anything for cutting and cloning them, WHAT A DEAL..

I got one of those Aprilla keys and gave it to my dealer to cut and clone. They didn't charge me, but it only worked for two days. Then I started getting a "bad key" error message. Anyone ever have that happen? I wonder if I can have it re-cloned.

Well I hope that's not the case with the ones I just had cloned, It will be hard to tell until riding season gets here and I'm on the :spyder2: every day. If they don't work very long, at least I don't have much Invested In them..

Keep in mind the 2014 key is different. 2010-2013 blanks, which most dealers stock will not work or program in your 2014. A whole new ignition, install and keys will cost as much as $1300.

I wouldn't want an aftermarket setup due to the complexities of the Spyders ignition system.

Moral of the Story: Do not misplace those "friggin" keys

Yes I have had personal experience with this. Dealer for my new 2014 lost my spare and gave me a blank to get cut. After three blanks and three attempts to program factory pointed out that the 2014 key was different and the dealer stock keys would never work. Hmmmm!

Does your dealer have a cloning machine? Do they run a locksmith business on the side? I have never heard of a dealer having the equipment to do this before.
