• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I can't be the only one who feels this way....

I agree with you there...

I bought my Smurfette (2010 RT-A) last Sept, and instead of spending boatloads at one time, I do one major mod per year, saving a few bucks each week, and even things like pocket change and the money from refundable bottles adds up to the next one!:spyder:

Mexican: The Givi hard bags from BRP run about $800.00 a set. If you want the better looking Corbin bags--they are about $1500.00 a set. :sour:

Quality hard bags for two wheels not cheap either. When I bought my V-sStar 950 I opted for the Tourer package which included hard bags. Currently those bags and mounts are going on e-bay for over $1100.

"We're retired and on a fixed income. I've made modifications slowly and really searched for alternatives when possible."

I have a long ways to go before I retire. I am fairly frugal, so I pick and choose my upgrades, if any, and they are driven by functionality and practically, first and foremost. I find there is some good second-hand gear out there. Just usually takes a while to find it. I like affordable modifications also. yeah yeah!

PDX, I hear you. I have to say that I find most of the things for Spyders to be waaaaay over-priced. I know all about R and D yada-yada, but there is a limit, and most of these things are way over the line. So they don't get my money! But again, that's just me. I'm with Groundeffect - if it does not serve a specific purpose that will improve the machine's reliability and/or performance, it doesn't go on. I think the only thing that I have purchased that was aesthetic in nature was Harvey's grill set, but those were too cool to pass up, and they were reasonably priced. I think the thing that has given me the absolute best value was Jim's belt tensioner. Now THAT was money well spent.

Having said that, there are folks out here that have done some fantastic things with their Spyders, and I totally respect that. Orange comes to mind here. Man, what a machine that is! So it's all about whatever blows your hair back. Modding, though expensive, can be a heck of a lot of fun!

The key to modding for me is to have patience and shop around quite a bit. There have been plenty of items that I wanted, BRP Billet Aluminum parts come to mind first, that I waited until I found a really good deal on them. I did not pay full retail price for any of those items I have on my Spyder. Some things I have paid full price for, but the BRP stuff and the Hindle are not among that group. It also helps to know the retail price before you look at an item on EBay, as many times they are selling for full retail, and then some with shipping, on there.
