• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I BROKE DOWN

Well I finally did it. broke down and traded the 08 gs/rs for a 2011 RT & 622 Trailer. Now have to save $$$for Mods. BTW Has anyone had the feeling that the spyder is fishtailing while going down the road? If so would appreciate your comments.

I've had a lot of feelings on the Spyder. Many of them New To Me. But the only time I've felt like the Spyder was fishtailing was when it WAS fishtailing!

This has only been while spinning the rear tire or, on occasion, hydroplaning.

It may be you or it may be your Spyder. If it's your Spyder then something isn't right. Check tire pressures would be my first guess.

If you're pulling the trailer, take it off and see if that helps.

Fishtailing -no.
I do find that they "hunt" a bit- that is to say they have 2 front wheels riding on two different places on the road and the Can Am steers like it is following one, then the other just like a car that doesn't hold steady in its lane on the highway. Some cars run dead true, some wander a bit and call for frequent steering corrections. The Spyder is like that but instead of the multiplier effect built into a geared steering system itis direct and you have to make very small corrections at times- depends on road conditions, wind, traffic turbulence etc., I've had times it runs straight and true, and times when it hunts back and forth but I haven't thought it was fishtailing- steering from behind.

I would agree with the tire pressure. I am running 18 in the front and 28 in the rear tire. Don't forget to change the settings on the LCD screen when you are pulling the trailer also.

The easy way to describe it IS , The tail wagging the dog, One wheel pushing two wheels.
Sometimes the rear tire will fall off the crown of the road and give that feeling, You'll get used to it just don't put the death grip on the bars'
ease up and go with the flow.

Not the same, does it with or without the trailer. After putting better than 19000 on the gs/rs i know that feeling this is almost like the rocking of a boat. not complaining just wondering. weered feeling when riding. even when not griping the handlebars just resting my hands over them.:yikes::gaah:Could get seasick with this.:roflblack:

When I switched from the 2008 GS/RS to a 2011 RT-S I also had that feeling. I have only 400 miles on this one and it is just starting to feel right. Never experienced that with the 08. I have played with the tire pressure on the RT. Found it necessary to use my cyclops dual connections to get the tire pressure equal in the front tires. A slight variation in pressure +/- 1 psi between the two seemed to make it more like a rocking rowboat.

Hello BMW: long time no hear. When I went from the 2008 GS to the 2010 RTS--I experienced the same kind of feeling. I posted about it long, long, ago.

The RTS has a "lighter" feel to it and it takes a couple hundred miles to get used to it. Overcontrolling was an issue for me--and I had 22K miles on the GS. Make sure your tire pressures are ok, and I run my shock setting on 4.

If you pull the trailer--make sure you put the bike in trailer towing mode.

Let us know what transpires, and :congrats: on the new ryde.

Check the pressure in your rear airbag. If it continues, see your dealer. Have them check that the steering sensors are zeroed. What you are describing is not normal, although the RT will "wallow" a lot more than your GS did, as it is taller and heavier. Setiing up the front spring preload can help that, if necessary.

HELLO YOURSELF. I look on this site alot. Just don't log on. Thanks for the info. just wanted to be sure it was me & not the RT.

Am taking it in tomarrow. thank you for the input. I hoped you would chime in.

Congrats on the upgrade. With a trailer now, looks like you're going to be having many more adventures. :ohyea:

Hope the dealer figures out what the fishtailing is all about.

Since you said you had the same effect with or without the trailer, I didn't mention anything further, but inadequate tongue weight on a trailer will cause the trailer to wander, introducing a fishtailing effect. A properly balanced trailer will actually make the Spyder handle better...especailly in the curves or in cross winds, IMO. For those that tow a trailer, it is essential to load them carefully to alway keep the tongue weight to around 10%-15% of the loaded trailer weight. Also keep in mind the 40 pound Spyder tongue weight limit.

:agree: Be careful with the 622... I think that my Missus could bankrupt me within a couple of shopping trips with the extra cargo capacity. (Shopping capacity?)

:agree: Watch out for that 622. It's big enough to carry a couple stiffs--if you were in that line of work. Taking it shopping--OoooooooooooBoy-------bankruptcy city. :roflblack::roflblack:
