• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello All, I am a newbie. I received delivery of my 2012 RT S-E5 on the second of this month. However, today I was riding about 15 miles from home and coming to a stop light I noticed the amber colored ABS and the icon of the RT with squiggly lines pop up for a few seconds and then go off. The screen Indicated break failure and quickly went back to the odometer screen after I took my foot off the break as the light turned green. I performed my pre-ride check and the break fluid reservoir is full. I also checked the parking break etc. I am a little nervous now because I would like to take a longer rides. This does not seem normal However, the dealer where I purchased this from is almost 3 hrs away in Columbus, GA. and was not very helpful when I spoke to someone in the service department over the phone.

Welcome welcome....

To both the spyder world and the place for all your answers...:2thumbs: First thing is... if you ryde with your foot on the brake pedal for any length of time you will get such a warning. This should clear once you re start and the computers have stored the codes. If you know how to pull the codes this helps us figure out what may have happened. If you restart and all is well again you are good to go. if this returns then you may have other issues. Shut her down, give her 30-45 min and restart .

BRAKE FAILURE WARNING

You will soon learn that the Spyder is a very fussy lady ....at least the NANNY.....I will almost guarantee that as little as a 1/2 teaspoon of the correct brake fluid id all you need to eliminate the warning light......What looks OK to the eye isn't to Ms. Nanny.........Also be sure to put the caps on correctly NOTE in which direction they were before you open them !!!!.... Mike :bbq:

:welcome: :2thumbs:

:agree: with Mike: your brake fluid is probably just a tiny bit low...
The system is really fussy, and starts complaining as soon as you need to add about six drops of fluid to it...
I would use an eyedropper to add the fluid. It makes it easy to control the amount added, and even easier to remove some, if you add too much! nojoke
Be careful with it! It's corrosive, and will chew the paint off of anything that it leaks down on to... :yikes:
Oh! Also take a very close look at how your master cylinder covers are in place. If you put them back on wrong: they WILL leak.

Thank You for the warm welcome and advice.

Being a newb in traffic I probably did have my foot on the break too long I will practice more on that. I will also recheck the caps on the break fluid reservoir and add a little more fluid.(what is the best brand of fluid to purchase?) I need to learn how to pull the codes though. Is there a section in the manual or a step by step here in the forums that I can follow? :D Thanks Again.

Welcome & congrats. I agree with all comments above there is an app to help with spyder codes & what not. Here are some pics i hope of what you described & what it says is related to ImageUploadedByTapatalk1457484212.473270.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1457484220.205855.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1457484228.239212.jpg. Any new DOT4 brake fluid will do, careful with the caps orientation, review manual & the fluids is caustic to plastics so have a rag or paper towels ready for drips. Most recommend using an eye dropper as it can be a hard to reach area. Good luck[emoji106]

I wasn't there but I still care!

DOT 4 fluid, I don't think the brand matters.

On the RT to pull codes you push the Mode, Set and Turn Signal Cancel buttons at the same time with the key on. If you have an active code it will show up otherwise the screen will be blank

Hang in there! The 2012 Rt is a good machine, taken care of it will give you many trouble free miles and lots of smiles.:yes::yes:

This is a great forum and there have been volumes of information published on the 998 rt series 10,11's and 12's don't pay too much attention to the 13's as they were a breed all there own. So... read read and read some more, ask lots of questions. Soon you will have superior knowledge of your machine and these little things will not bother you so much.

Depending on the mileage, the 2012 is coming up to some major maintenance items, check the maintenance schedule in the owners manual. If you don't have one it can be downloaded from the BRP web site. It would be helpful if you have the past maintenance records. I just replaced the battery in mine whale I had her clothes off doing my annual maintenance thing. No, the original one was still working, but it was past it's prime.

Good luck and WELCOME
