How to Try Before I Buy?

I'm looking into getting a Spyder a few months after I get my new job. I'm interested in a Spyder because I have Cerebral Palsy. I just wish I could try out an SE5 or SE6 before I buy one. Nobody wants to spend money on something they can't use, and none of the rider safety courses around me have any Spyders on hand for me to practice with. How can I test one before I spend a ton of money?

ETA: Dealerships around me won't let me do a test drive without a full-fledged motorcycle license, which, of course, requires a skills test. I can't do the skills test on a two-wheeler. I can get a motorcycle-specific license in my state, so I don't need an endorsement on a regular license.

Just come by to any dealer close your place and try to ride , or you can setup online for a try to ride

Have to agree...

Most dealers will let you test ryde them. The rental is a great way but there are few of those around. You should call around and see what is available in your area..

I would, but they'd require me to already have my motorcycle license, which, of course, requires a skills test. I can't take the skills test on a regular bike.

You'll need to get a motorcycle endorsement anyway to use a Spyder. Look for a MSF course for trikes. Get your endorsement, then go and do a test ryde.

My state actually offers a motorcycle-specific (Class M) license. Sadly, at least one of the three MSF courses around me doesn't have any Spyders on hand. I'll check with the other two tomorrow.

Where do you live in Atlanta? Several of us near by... Could possibly give you a taste in a vacant parking lot, or take you for a ride

I remember the dealer said to me: go take that RT sitting outside & go for a ride, just come back before we close"

They did photocopy my licence though.

Hope you find a solution.

As I get older & more 'infirm" I appreciate my Spyder more each time I ride it. Today I took my Honda Aero out for a ride in preparation for my brother coming over from the UK for a tour of the Gaspe region of Quebec with me. The whole time I was out I kept saying to myself " I hope I don't fall off" Relieved when I got home.

Question: Have you tried explaining your situation to the dealerships? Perhaps they'd be willing to let you at least try on in their parking lot.
(Assuming that they can get some cars out of the way!

I attended some motorcycle events like Bike Week where Can Am is a vendor. I was able to do the "cone course" even without an endorsement. However, it's slow and different than ryding on the road but gave me an idea of how it handles.

I took a trike endorsement class at my local Harley dealer. We used the Tri-glide trikes. Once I got that endorsement, I was able to ryde all the Spyders I wanted at the next bike week.

Good luck! :spyder2:

This might be what I'll have to do. Can I find information about these events on the Can-Am website?

I also have Cerebral Palsy. Having test rode an F3-S at Spyderfest in Springfield, I can definitively say I prefer the riding position of my RS-S SE5. If you would be interested, I'm about 4 hours northeast of you, I could ride down your way after the rain clears up a little and let you try it out somewhere. I consider it the best purchase I have ever made. Message me on here and let me know if you want me to head down your way sometime. I like any excuse to ride :).

Since you'd like the excuse to ride, I'd love to take you up on this. This will be huge for me. I really, really appreciate it. I can't thank you enough! Should I send you a PM?
