• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How many Spyder Ryders are Retirees? How long and from What?

After about 4 years Army, 16 years Navy and 12+ DOD Naval Civil Service as an electronics aircraft systems Tech Rep I was fired since I could no longer physically do my job. Lucky for me I had enough years to retire at 55. Love retirement but sometimes I do miss being where the action is.
 
I sat and figured this out and decided I am very old.
Retired from active duty USA in jly 1983 with over 28 years service.
Drove and taught people to drive School bus 3/4 time (summer vacation off) for about 18 years
About 8 years teaching (mostly) new teen drivers 3 or 4 days a week. Able to teel the boss when I wanted to work and when I wanted off.
2009 or so, I said, this is enought, I quit working for money.
Started riding (illegally in 1948 or so) Had a motorcylce ot two (except for VN) ever since. Decided I needed to get out of the two wheel busines and researched all kinds of trike converstions. Rode a Spyder demo and bought one of the first 08 GS, RT came out and bought one Spend a lot of time on PGR mission and a lot more on just riding. Long tirps are past but 40 miles a day in better then 14 hours in a rocking chair.

Retired here also, December 2008.

35 years in IT, about 15 doing programming and the rest doing database administration, all for the Canadian Federal Government.
 
I was a ASE certified master mechanic before kidney disease put a stop to that.Was on dialysis for 8 years. Then on March 23 2012, I got a kidney transplant. :yes:


My step daughter gave her husband the gift 6 months ago :clap::clap::clap:
 
I worked on silo building crew for 2 years. Went to work at a creamery driving truck for 10 years. worked as a pump installer/ water treatment specialist for 9 years. Worked

16.5 years for NYSDOT, started as a laborer, ended up as general foreman. Went on a emergency call one night in April, 2010, cutting a tree and it fell on me. Retired that September.

Miss the people, not the job.
 
Retired from law enforcement a little over 3 years ago. Specialized in crimes against children. Currently a licensed private detective providing verrrrry selective and part-time investigative, training, and consulting services.



Crimes against children, one of the most heart breaking jobs in law enforcement. :pray:

Although i know it has its occasional days that make you smile.

Retired in 2012 shutting down my "Some Assembly Required" home repair/remodeling business..Now doing the same thing but on my own home...:thumbup:
 
I feel quite under-qualified compared to those who posted before!
I really didn't have professional qualifications 'til I was 35. Then I embarked on some serious studying.
So I gained my Radio Ham ticket in 1979 and that led to me working as a field service engineer for Hotpoint (GE)
I made senior engineer a few years later and continued for a few years.
I then became self-employed and made a nice living from a domestic appliance repair business while looking after my ailing Mum.
During that time I also became a basically qualified locksmith and then went on to qualify in buildings pathology.
Shortly after my back decided that it no longer wanted to play ball and I was forced to retire at 61 as I could no longer
reliably do my job.......such is life!

RETIRE FROM GENERAL ELECTRIC AS A SENIOR ENGINEER, ON 1 APRIL 2008 @ THE AGE OF 60...
started in Oct. of 1967 as an Apprentice Tool Maker...
after which i went to college nights for 8 years... became an engineer in the Gas Turbine (aka: jet engine) business...
instrumental in building the following engines: T-58, T-64, J-85, J-97, TF/CF34, T-39, F101, F110, F404, F414, T-700, CFM56, CF6, and all of the derivatives of those including the LM series, as well as a number of '
black' program engines...
Odd that i should see this post today... i received a call from them asking if i'd come back to do work on a special project...
I need to do some sole searching on this one... the offer is outstandingly attractive...

Retired from GM Pontiac Motor Division in 1993 with 32 years, most of them as an electrician, worked machine tool contracting till I decided there was no money in it, then at the Ford Michigan Truck Plant for 11 years and some months, retired again in 2005, still do some machine tool/CNC/programmable controller stuff, but only when I want to.

Retired from USAF in 1987 after 21 years, target in 2008 after 21 years.
I am still working because I get bored .
 
After 46 years and 29 days, my wife told me I had to retire . . . I said: "Yes, dear." and did.

I've owned a family moving company since 1980 - an agent for one of the major van lines. Started making arrangements to start selling it at age 63, so I could retire at 65. That was in 2008, the first year of the housing recession. So it took another 5 years for the economy to recover enough to find a willing buyer. :sour: Finally went to closing in 2013 (which is why I have a 2013 Spyder ;) )

My wife retired at the same time from the same family business, so the Spyder is a welcome get-away for both of us. (She doesn't ride.) But we do enjoy pursuing other interests we have in common. :)
 
I retried in 2001 after being in education for 30 years as a Physical Education teacher for 7 years at the middle school level and 23 years at the elementary level all in one school district in Oregon. Bought my RTS in August 2014 and am looking forward to lots of miles this summer.
