How many of you have had Parking Brake motor failures?

I’m at Maggie Valley currently and was helping a couple with a parking brake that would not release……a couple of taps on the Parking Brake Actuator motor housing got it working temporarily.
How many of you out there have had to replace the PBA? I know there is a service bulletin out there…….thinking of buying a spare to have on hand.
If memory serves me right, the commutator in the motor prematurely wears creating a dead spot…….causing no operation.

It's a well know problem as you'll see as others chime in, or not, about the problem.

In 2021, the parking brake on my 2018 F3Ltd would not release and got the code specific to the problem. I got out the shop manual to see how things worked. I decided to in put ALL THE SLACK I could on the cable that hooks onto the brake actuator arm. I cleared the code and I have not had the problem since.

My belief is that the brake motor was pulling the cable to the brake actuator arm (thus the brake pads) too hard eventually straining the motor to failure, and or, causing the plastic gear to strip its teeth.

Ah something to check out next time im in the shed.

So how do you gauge the point where its as slack as it can be , and work correctly, specially on sloping ground?

Thinking I dont want problems parking on a hill and stuff.

Any tips?

Isopedella: I just put as much slack in the cable as I could get. There's really not a whole lot of slack available to begin with as you'll see. In my situation, there is still plenty of "grab" on brake pads to the rotor. I have no worries about the machine rolling away.

Guess I will have a crack at it when im out there next time.
Wind it through the thread holder bit, looking at how loose that silver bracket is sitting in that black lever.
Just nip up so its sitting firm in the notch.

I can test it on a slope as I have a steep-ish driveway.
If it needs more I can work it up in 1/2 turns. Make sense?

Sure, give it a try to see what works for you.

BRP replaced a lot of PBMs in the early 2014 models because they wouldn't hold. Mine has worked OK since it was replaced back in 2015 or '16.

As far as I know, mine has never been replaced. I’m a second owner, having purchased it from an estate when it was less than a year old.
