How many miles on rear tire

I must be ultra aggressive??

I got about 6000 miles out of the original Kenda rear, switched to Kuhmo Ecsta car tire expecting much longer mileage....I have about 9000 on it and it is about 3/4 worn down and gets zero traction in the rain now, will likely be Slick in 11,000 miles...I guess I will try the altimax next and see if I can get that one to last....My original front tires still have about 40% tread left....I just seem to be extra hard on rear tires.......

For what its worth I just installed fobo on my 2013 rt limited and set the pressure at
Front 18 lbs Rear 28 lbs temperature read 61 to 63 degrees out on the hwy in 72 degree
weather the fobo alarm sounded so i stopped and checked. The fronts were reading 20.5 and rear
was reading 32 . I wonder what pressure we may be running on a 100 degree day.
I love the tpms it saves getting this 80 year old body down on the floor to check tire pressure,
getting down isn't to bad but getting back up 3 times is :cus:.
Maybe Nitrogen or starting out with a lower pressure might save tire ware. Just my 2 cents worth.
Ken;);););););)

Tires heat up and the pressure increases with the heat - that is entirely normal and is taken into account when manufacturers provide pressure recommendations.

Rear tire

I am sitting at close to 9500 miles on my 2014 RTS original rear. I will have to check the tread indicators but the tire has
shown to be wearing evenly. I am normally "one up" as my wife thinks it has to be 80 to ride :roflblack:

I hope to last the rest of the season and get oil and tire change done at that time. I put about 7000 on it from 7/15 - 11/15 and
another 2500 from 1/16 - Present.

I will definitely check for the indicators though...didn't know this one to look for as I spend more time riding than RTFM...lol.

as others have stated the mileage of the rear tire will vary on riding habits etc..Go on the trip and keep an eye on it..If you need a tire while on the rode stop by a dealer and they should help you out. I don't think you want to bring a spare tire with you..

Mine only last to 5800 miles..Now running the Vee Tire.See how long that lasts..So far its still looking good with over 3 k on it now.

Replaced My Rear Tire

I just replaced the rear tire on my 2014 RTL this past weekend. Mileage was 13,900.00. Kept it as a spare, as service manager said it still had some miles on it. I generally ride 2 up on my long trips, and keep a close watch on tire pressure. I usually run at 28psi on the rear tire, with my midrange to hard shock setting.

Rear tire

I got 7,600 miles on the original tire on my 2014 RT limited. I had 1/32 of tread left in the middle. Lots of tread left on the sides.

Depends

I think the 14s 15s and probably 16s with the the 1330 go through tires a bit quicker than the 998s. I drive pretty aggressive (according to the governess I have on my bike). We are on our third rear tire at just over 28k. Put the Kumho on the rear. Just changed out the fronts so we 28k on them. We could have gotten more, but my wife is heading out on a 4 day girls ryde and I feel better sending her out with 3 new shoes!

Another factor to tire wear is the type of roads you ride on. A lot of the roads here in the Hill Country are chip seal. They are very abrasive, especially on soft compound motorcycle tires.

We must have one of the soft compound tires on our 2014 ST-S, because after 6,000 miles it needs to be replaced.
You weren't the only one. We got 4400 out of ours but we replaced it when it hit the wear bars. This was on a 14 ST-L.

Wow, SPYDERMAX, you really did get shafted. Mine has 16,200 miles and still looks way better than that. My tread pattern still shows all details across the (thin) center, and the outside groove still has 4 to 5/32, which is still a good bit above the wear bars. And yes to Gray Ghost, the pavement here is also mighty coarse.

I should think all the people who got tires like yours ought to be entitled to a good 50% discount on a replacement!

I needed to update my maintenance spreadsheet anyway so I thought I'd share my tire data. I currently have just over 75,000 miles on my 2014 RTS and I just put the General Altimax on the rear and Kenda's on the front. I had intended to put Generals on both but they don't fit the front. I could have gone many more miles on the last Kumho but I was trying to go with the same tread pattern all the way around. I had to put the Kendas on the front since I didn't have time to get anything else after I realized that the General's wouldn't fit and before I left for Spyderfest.

You didn't read my comments, I changed the last Kumho early as I wanted to put General's all the way around before starting our heavy travel season. I could have gotten a lot more miles out of it but the fronts were ready to be changed. And the Arachnids were three different compounds - none of them were great.
