How many came off a Goldwing, BMW or Harley dresser

retirerd captain 80ft yascht

when my 1st mate and partner died i sold the boat and had three trikes harley goldwing yamaha then found the 2010 rt love it best. ride on. miss the boat ?

I guess you could say I came off an HD dresser.... I got tired of looking at my reflection in my husband's helmet. So he bought me a 500cc Buell Blast. Loved it but did have a crash in the class. Broke ribs, blew a tendon in my right hand, bone contusions from both knees to my ankles, and more fun stuff. I really wanted to ride and saw a yellow RS on the hwy and thought WOW I can do that. Set out to find one and a few months later found myself with a new silver 2010RT. I ended up selling my Buell to a gal I work with. Hubby still has his HD dresser and will until he can't hold it up any longer and then he'll have a spyder also.
(I have almost 28,000 miles on my RT and have never looked back):yes::yes:

Have had numerous HD's over the years. A couple years ago, was on a 2000 plus mile trip on my street glide and because of the weight with the baggage dropped a couple of times. Ruined my confidence and started to wonder what the next parking lot or gas station would look like and took the joy out of riding. Plus, the arthritis in my thumbs was getting worse. Tried the HD trike but had to physically push and pull through corners and curves too much. I imagined I'd be exhausted after a days ride. Kept seeing the Spyder commercials so my husband talked me into going to a local dealer and trying them out. Ended up purchasing a 2011 RTS SE5. Love, love it. However, missed the 2 wheel experience so recently purchased a HD Fatboy but my RT is my go to bike.

I've had bikes since 1968 when I bought a used Honda 50 Super Sport. I still have my `09 GL1800 along side my `12 RTS and ride them both about equal time. My wife likes riding on both bikes. The big difference I see when riding them is Spyder People are more fun to hang around than bikers.

Me Too

Add me to the "came from BMW" list -- though there was almost a 20 year gap. Had a custom built K75LT (color matched to the K100LT that my husband owned). This was BEFORE BMW made a touring K75 and our dealer custom built the bike just for me. Unfortunately, the only piece left after my accident in 1993 (head on, walked away) is the "custom built" plaque added by the dealer. BMW even sent someone from corporate to take pictures and came out with a touring K75 about a year later.

The Spyder got me "back in the wind" ... something I didn't think I'd ever do again.

I came off two BMW K1200LTs, a 2001 & 2003. Loved the bikes and made a cross country trip on one. The most comfortable bike I ever had (next to the spyder) but as I got older, it seemed to get more top heavy. My wife refused to ride with me on the two wheelers but rides behind me on the spyder.

I am just curious how many RT owners came off a Goldwing, BMW touring, or HD touring. I went form HD's to BMW then kept a GL1800 for 7 years, while having other brands in the stable, now my Roadster is the only Ryde I have. I gave up two wheels, honestly because I just pushed the limits too much...

My GL1800 and HD friends just can't believe that I am on a Roadster... They just don't get it... It definitely isn't a motorcycle, but hey I am still in the wind and enjoy the safety, comfort and my wife is really happy to get me off 2 wheeled motorcycles.

If you came from these 2 wheeled touring brands then why did you buy 3 wheels? I hear of bad backs, knees, health reasons, disabilities, age, so what's your reason.

I've had GoldWings, and sold a BMW K1200LT, when I bought my RT - (had both while I had my RS). Really didn't see a need for both, at the time.

Finally got fed up with not having a decent dealer closer than 60 miles, and still having to order parts - then there was the "new model, and a faster depreciation risk, so I went back to the dark side.

The RT was the second most comfortable ride, after the BMW, offered great weather protection, had the presence of one of my Valks - and the RT was tops in traffic. However, now that I don't commute to work, I don't need to have a $20K toy in my garage. If I have to get off two wheels again, it will be time for my Corvette...

I left a 2010 Triumph Scrambler For my 2013 RSS. Main reason,my wife went down with her ex and had a fear of leaning. Oh brother did I find out first time I got her on two wheels. I went into a slow corner and she tried to stay upright. Boy did she get an ear full :gaah:. On the Spyder she's planted and enjoys riding. Our first real ride was a 135 mile in 60 deg weather couple months ago.
It's 70 today;)

Have been riding two wheels for 45 years. Two Goldwings, one ninja 750.one zx11,other UJM's.Raced m.x. and desert for about 10 years, soooo my rt.knee finally gave out on me riding a 09 klr 650 up in the local National Forest(crash). Still in the healing process and have ordered a 2014 rt limited due to the fact my wife will not ride two-up with me on a G/W and take the chance of my knee going out on me on a long trip.Did not want to do a trike conversion,so took a :spyder2: for a test drive and figured it would be something new and different since I'm used to riding snowmobiles anyway, So we will see if it can provide the smiles per mile that the two wheeled world has over the years.

I own a 2014 Spyder RT, my wife has a 2012 Rt and last fall I purchased a new 2014 Harley Ultra Limited. I was wanting to have the
choice to ride a 2 wheel as well as my Spyder. I've owned all brands of bikes since 1971 other than a Harley. I can honestly say that I feel embarrassed to say I own a Harley. I'm a million times happier with my Spyder. Maybe as I get the opportunity to ride the Harley I will change my mind but...... I'm stuck on the Spyders.

Last real bike was a 78 GL1000, ie..the tank. She had full Battes bags and trunk. King and Queen Velour saddle and home made running boards. Rode er for a few years then quit full time riding in 86. Had a 650 Silverwing for a month or two in mid 90's. Now, 2012 Mag RTS SE5 w/RT622. Me and momma are real happy:yes::yes:......... yeah I know the Silverwing was a real bike, but, kinda tiny for me.

My last bike was a 2003 FLHTI (Harley Davidson Electraglide) that I bought new. I loved the bike. I never had any trouble with it. When the ST Limited came out, I decided to take one out for a test ride. I fell in love, bought one, and sold the Harley last summer. My husband then decided that he wanted a Spyder and we got a 2012 RTS for him from a fellow Spyderlover..(cdavid), last September (in time for Spyderquest) and then sold his 1998 Road King that he had bought new. We love the Spyders.

Sounds like YOU wrote MY intro to Spyders! I've ridden MANY bikes over the Last 50 years. First bike was a Honda 90 in 1962. Last was a Victory Hammer (Highly modified!). My "need for speed" kinda overwhelmed my 62 yr old brain one time too many & I almost took out a pick-up at about 140! My wife was riding a Suzuki trike that just wore her out after only 50 miles. She wanted to go look at a Spyder & she fell in love! Bought the 2011 RT-S SE-5 after the test ride! 6 months later we bought the 2012 RT-S SE-5 for ME! On long trips, she was riding my A** Off! She has been known to Ryde 600 miles in a day! Been extremely happy with both Spyders! :doorag:

Because of back, sciatic , and feet problems-I love being out on the 2014 rt

As I read the comments here, there is one thing that I didn't mention that was the most important reason for me going to the Roadster. We were with another couple and stopped at a State Park for lunch. The parking lot went down hill at about a 45 degree, the parking spaces angled to the right, I was behind my nephew and his wife and followed them down to park beside their bike. There was no room so I did a 360 and proceeded back up the hill, now parking spaces to my left but it was a full steering lock in order to get into one. Once I made the transition fine the parking stop was made out of wood and there was a 20 ft. drop off in the front of the stop. With my attention focused on what was in front of me I had the front wheel very slightly turned and tapped the front brake.
Of course we were body slammed to the ground and the bike was not even moving...My wife had bruised ribs for about 3 months and I cut a nasty gash in my shin on top of the bone.

This was the only time in 40 years that I dropped a 2 wheeled street bike. I had told people hundreds of times to never touch the front brake with the ft wheel turned at low speed. It was only 3 weeks earlier that I told someone that I had never tipped over a bike and both my nephews that ride Goldwings laughed and said they had dropped theirs a few times.

I really felt bad for my wife's pain, knowing that one day probably sooner than later that for me to be totally comfortable with here two up, that I would need a solution for the two wheels. Not to mention deteriorated disc in my lower back, neck pain from motocross and all the stupid dirt riding we did.

Chazzman.. you just covered my reason. My wife and I worked our way through Honda V-twins, Harleys, Suzuki fours, Yamaha twins and finally Gold Wings. I had an '82 Aspencade that I loved but it went when I got a '99 Valkyrie (my favorite ride).

I was entering a lane into the stables where we keep our horses and a truck and horse trailer were coming out. I waited on the pavement while they entered traffic and pulled forward into the gravel. I felt the front slip a bit in the gravel and even though I knew better, grabbed the front brake. Down I went with the Valk on top of me. My wife helped me pick the pieces of gravel out of my arm and leg and suggested that I may want to try three wheels. She was then riding a triked Suzuki 650.

I traded the '99 Valkyrie Interstate even for a 2004 Gold Wing with a Motor Trike kit installed.

The following year the RT came out and my wife immediately traded her Suzuki in on a new RT. After I drove hers a few times, the Gold Wing was history and I got my first RT.

Traded in my '08 H-D Harley Softail. Loved that bike; but after 5 back fusions I just couldn't manage to make it a comfortable ride. Hubby bought a 2013 RT back in August, we had some good rides with me trying to "keep up with him" this past fall. I purposely didn't ride it as I had a sneaky suspicion I'd like it. We had some folks and Harvey Spyderpops over for a "Laser Alignment Party" back in January. What a great group of folks; they all encouraged me to take the hubby's out for a spin, see how my back tolerates it. OMG, was totally hooked. Rode 30 miles on a cold and wind day; didn't have to struggle. I traded in my H-D the next day. I did snivel a bit when they took her to the back, but have had a blast on my new 2013 RT; had over 900 miles on it in less than a month!

my last two wheeler

was a FLHTPI. sweet ride. still miss it once in a while.
