I am curious...My 2013 RT doesn't seem to have the dreaded heat problem. How many others are out there. I am completely satisfied with my Spyder.

No heat problem

My wife have two 2013 Spyders. Hers is an RT and mine an ST. They run warm, the Tupperware gets warm but we do not have an excess heat problem. The RT has a problem with heated air coming from the discharge port on the right side. A homemade Lexan wing has reduced that problem to a minimum. We only have ~1100 miles on both of the bikes so may be too early to tell. So far so good.

I just bought my 2013 RT and haven't had any problem, fingers crossed. I only have 160 miles on it. I just got my license this passed weekend.

heat problem ?

I have a 2013 rt and don't experience any heat issues, have about 3300 miles on it. have done several long trips with back to back fill ups and no issues with the hot gas cap or boiling gas. it is warm to the touch at the left front of the seat, near the filler neck, but not hot. more than likely this winter I will add exhaust wrap and maybe some ventilation ports but only because I think it would help the life of the rubber hoses and such. this is my first spyder, rode the two wheelers for years, and I must admit, I REALLY like it.:doorag::doorag:

My wife and I have over 4K miles on our 2013 RT-S and have had no issues. We have ridden in temps as high as 95 degrees and she has not complained about anything. We've also taken rides as long as 3 hours in duration and still no heat issues. I have spoken to two different dealers, who between the two of them have done the recall work on about 100 Spyders, of which only 1 bike had a melted MC. This seems to support the idea that the heat issues plague only a small percentage of 2013 owners. The million dollar question is why :)

New guy in WA. RT SE5 owner since late September. No local temps over 74 F since new. 600 mile service completed with no fault codes. And, so far, no untoward heat issues to report.

Regards,

Dan

how many

what we need to ask along with the pole is how many people have a 2013 and how many do or don't have a heat problem so we know the count and the problem.

I think that's the underlying question already being addressed in this poll.

2013 RT 9,000 miles , no heat problem coming from under the tupperware, minor heat problem on right foot, fixed that problem.

I've only had some minor heat issues on my right foot, but really not much more than from the exhaust on my two wheeler. I have no issues with the crotch or leg areas. My wife has not even complained about any heat issues on 2 up rides.

2013 RT's with heat problems

I entered the poll above, but I have two friends here in Central Florida, who also purchased new 2013's in February and March of this year. They are not active on this web site, so I thought I would report for them since we want to get some accurate figures. Neither of them have encountered any heat problems. I know one of them rode 14 hours from NE Georgia two up in Sept. at 95 degree heat down to Central Fl. to come home from a riding trip up North. He had not received his notice about the recall when he went up, but had it when he got home. He took it to the dealer and had the recall items installed. He had no evidence of any heat problems. His is a RT-S Se5. The other friend has a RT-L. he has over 6,000 miles on his and has ridden in Florida heat as well as spending a week in the N. mountains of Georgia for a week. When he had his recall items installed, his MC had no heat damage. I have a RT-L with about 3600 miles on it, and most of them were here in Central Fl. this Spring and Summer. When they installed my recall items in Sept. I had about 2,000 miles and had no heat damage to MC. I have not had any uncomfortable riding except one day when (for the first time) rode about 100 miles in shorts and sport shoes. Now that was HOT!!! Stupid on my part. I am back to riding in light weight jeans because they are much cooler in our Summer heat. just MHO.

I had a manifold pipe break and squeaky break pad but other than that nothing really. BPR and dealership took care of manifold. Tech gave me a can of break cleaner which helped a great deal. Happy owner here.

2013 RT Limited . . . lots of heat under the tupperwear. When they did the recall, they had to replace my brake cable, master cylinder and charcoal canister as all three had started to melt. I've received 1st degree burns on my legs where heat comes out from under the seat. The engine normally runs at the halfway mark on the coolant temp gauge. The "hot foot" isn't too bad unless I am stuck in bad traffic for a long time, doing stop and go. I've given up on the dealer where I bought and am working with a new one to see if we can mitigate some of the heat . . . although, now that it is getting cold, a "heated seat" feels pretty good!

I think this survey was done already. I did not have heat issues on my 2013 that I did not attribute to living in the desert. I did have melting issues though.

No heat problem here.

I've got just over 8000 miles on my RT Limited. Even though I had signs of melting on my MC and EC when the recall was done, I've never felt the heat. I'm a happy camper!

not what i ment

2013 RT-S. Going in for 600 mile service today.

I said moderate heat problems because I have had no melting parts yet. The right foot is to me, a minor annoyance and no where near as hot as my right thigh when riding my wife's Harley. The problem I do have is sitting in stop n go traffic for any length of time. And I do this every day when I ride the bike to work. The gas fumes are BAD. Sitting still at the light, I am enveloped in a gasoline fume cloud if there is no breeze. By the time I get home, I smell of gasoline, the bike reeks and fills the garage with gas vapors. ITS BAD. Riding to work the bike gets 18 mpg due to the fuel boiling off. 100 miles and the tank is empty. Riding on the weekends with a fun right hand and mostly open roads, easy 26 mpg.

I plan to have the dealer check my canister and the purge valve today as part of the service. If nothing found, I will be removing the cat and wrapping the pipes under the Tupperware in a few weeks. Also may remove the fuel tank and insulate it if there are still problems.

I would much rather the bike performed correctly as built by BRP but its either fix it myself or part ways. I LOVE riding it, so will press forward to solve the problems BRP will not.
