• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How long?

Desert Spyder

New member
I have an 10 RT SE5 with almost 48000 mi. I have 2 yrs 8 mos before the bike is paid off and I am 63. I would love to trade it in for a newer model but I'm hesitant to do so. Sheffield says I owe too much to trade across. The bike is still reliable as far as a Spyder goes. I need front shocks which will run 700+ and I haven't done the second shim insp yet which is another grand+. I plan to go on a 1500 mi trip to SITR in August. My question is we don't know the longevity of the human body but do we know the longevity of the Spyder? I do keep up on the oil change faithfully. I am sure there are many others out there in the same boat. Thanks.

I believe there are at least a couple RT's out there with over 60K miles. I traded mine off on the 14 at 36K so no help there.

If yours is running good, I would not worry about the :ani29: self destructing. There are some RS versions (with the same engine) that have exceeded 100K and are still running.

Front shocks are a good investment to keep your :spyder2: running well and safe. If you have done a recent valve shim inspection, I would let that pass, unless you are getting noises from the valves. Another thread yesterday or so, discussed valve inspections in great detail. I will chase down the thread and re-post the link here for you. Personally, I would let the valve check go--but it's going to be your call.

I agree about the inspection. It has been a big controversy as to its continuance since the Spyders first came out. I forgot to add that I have about 1-1/2 year left of the extended warranty by Western Service. That is a big factor I believe in peoples decision to keep or to move on.

Brian I wouldn't worry especially since you still have warranty.

Thats my insurance policy Ann. ;-) But I wouldn't like to be stuck in the middle of nowhere like you were. LOL. At least you were on the freeway and not some deserted highway. You coming to SITR or going to Sturgis?

When you go up in flames it becomes insurance and not just roadside assistance :roflblack:. Yes we will be at SITR doing alignments and lights and maybe some other fun installs.

How long..??

How long till what..?? The spyder will outlast us both. Seems you take better care of your ryde than yourself. Moving up could be quite expensive and you don't have that much more to go till you have negotiating power..I would hang on and enjoy a couple more seasons...:ohyea:

THE SHOCK THING

Lots of people have upgraded their shocks and still have OEM RT shocks with very low mileage .....I would ask if anyone has any to sell ......$75 a pair should cover it......Mike
