• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How long do heated handgrips operate for?

Morning All:
I have a 2017 F3-Limited with heated grips. I do not use the grips much and I am do not fully understand their operation. When I activate by depressing the button, do they stay active even between restarts until I depress the button again? I tried testing and it seems I get lost in the button pushing. :(
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Not sure about your F3, but on my wife's RT-S, the switch latches into one of three positions, OFF, LOW, HIGH.

I would guess that if it was a momentary switch, it would activate the function until the switch was moved or the key was turned off, but the latching feature tells me that it would stay ON.

.

Thanks for the answers all - the button only has on and off based on the responses.
Thanks for your time.
Jim

Do press the button until it locks down. If it is flush with the bezel, it's in the off position. Locked down, keeps them on even when restarting.

Doesn't much matter, Jim - those grips are so anemic, you will find yourself randomly pushing the button because you are not quite sure if the damn things are working or not. "Heated" grips its a term used loosely on the F3 Limited ...unfortunately, we were robbed.....:gaah::gaah::gaah:

My heated grips do a fine job and I even put Grip Puppies on them and wear insulated gloves. Guess I'm lucky.

I also have a 2017 F3-Ltd, and my heated grips work just fine in my 35K plus miles so far. Doesn't overheat my gloves so my hands sweat, but keeps the chill off. If you leave the button down, it turns off when the ignition is turned off, and then turned back on when the ignition is back on, so there is no drag on the battery or overuse of he heated elements. At least this is the way MY bike works and I'm well pleased with it (have had to turn off the heated grips a few times after the sun comes out, or put on thinner gloves is my preference).

If they're like the ones on the RT, and I'm sure they are, the grips are powered through the load shedding relay. That means the engine must be running for them to turn on, just like the headlights and rear air bag compressor.
