• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I usually ride between 300 - 400 miles a day. There are people who ride further...

The weather and terrain sometimes dictates how far you can go in a day though.

Take breaks once an hour.

Depends..!

In one haul...up to 850 miles. I get about 150 miles then need gas so take breaks then. Walk around snack and hydrate. If ryding with my wife about every hour or 100 miles. Road condition, traffic etc can vary this considerably..

700+

in 1 day, i've ridden my '09 RS 700+ miles...
i've also have ridden it over 5000 miles in 12 days on my trip from SC to UT and back...
never had an issue with being uncomfortable... as for breaks - every gas stop, you'll need to walk around to get the blood circulating...

600 mile plus days used to be no issue for me whatsoever. These days, I am happy with a 350 mile ride day--providing the back and hip do not act up. Then, I cut it shorter.

Breaks taken 50 to 75 mile intervals if needed. Usually at gas stops every 100 miles or so.

The most I've ridden my 08 RS in one shot was 1,455 miles. Albuquerque, NM to Greeneville, TN. It took 25 hours. Not planning on doing that again anytime soon, or anytime at all!

I've done a few 1,000+ mile runs in one shot. And I'm still using the stock seat. I think it is fine! After a few hundred miles I can't feel a thing! :ohyea:

WELL YOU ASKED FOR IT

...When I bought my 11 RSS in No.Carolina in2012, I took it to LaMont's :bbq:stayed for three days and then headed home to Vermont.....I stopped at my Sister's in New Jersey which was about 690 miles from the BBQ.....The only stops I made were for Gas , coffee, and well you know ha ha .......did it in 11 hrs......yea I was speeding a little :cus: :lecturef_smilie: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:.....Mike

2350km's (1460 miles) over 2 days. All on winding NZ roads.

I'll be doing the TT2000 in Feb which will be a similar distance.

I've found the RS the most comfortable 'bike' I've had for long distance riding. Only changes I've made to make it more suited for distance stuff are:
  • A SmootSpyder 'dual-mode' backrest (great as you can push yourself back against it for a bit to give your arms a rest and change your posture).
  • Some panniers so I can carry some extra petrol - Range is probably the biggest headache as not many petrol stations on the roads I go on particularly at night.
  • Grip puppies and Bar end weights.
  • Power plug and Ram mount for Phone (use it for music and, when lost, navigation)
  • Swaybar (of course)

Bars, screen and foot pegs are all standard.

I did a 1260 mile run, followed by a 3340 mile tour in 2009 on my 2009 RS - just before I purchased my 2010 RT. BTW, I was disappointed not to see any Hobbits running across the road in the video....

Hobbits are extra.... Sounds like you didn't get that upgrade! ;)

Habbits are free! Especially the bad ones!

Im embarrassed now Ron asking if 320 miles is doable. But its nice to know people have gone the distance on a rs or rss.

My longest day on my RS was 780 miles...put 54,000 miles on it in 2 and a half years...most days 400 is a good day...

My longest day was 980 miles from Tucson, AZ to Lafayette, CO in 24 hrs. Missed stopping for gas in Trinidad and had to backtrack. It was on my '09, Got a '14 RT-L now and can't wait to do the ride again with cruise control/GPS. I'm a little navigation challenged.

Your 09 was a sweet ryde, glad to hear your enjoying that 14 RT and all its "perks".

This map probably will not mean much to most members of SpyderLovers but I've finally finished planning my route for the TT2000 in Feb. The TT2000 is a long distance motorbike event where you have to do a minimum of 2000km in 48 hours but also stop at a whole load of check points dotted across New Zealand. You don't have to stop at all but there's a minimum number. There's a North and South option, I've chosen to do the South. My route works out at a total of 2,486 km (1,545 miles), which according to Google Maps will be approximately 17 hours riding each day. Each red mark on the map is a checkpoint where I have to stop and take a picture of the bike draped with a T-Shirt they give you at the start of the event (so you don't cheat:-)). As you can probably guess from the map all the checkpoints are in really off-the-beaten-track places so alot of the ridings done on side roads, though all the main roads are single carriageway anyway:-).

Most of my short rides are 200 - 220 miles. When traveling 450 - 600 miles. I don't push it, I want to have fun not pain. Sometimes we will stop to meet people and check out the area. Traveling to me is part of the adventure. That's IMHO.

Mike

I just bought a 2013 RS-S & rode 320 miles on my first ride. Was very comfortable compared to my sport bike. Had to stop about every 100 miles for gas. I think I'm hooked. :2thumbs:
