How do you remove the top of the Cougar Skull again?

I am going to change out mirrors and turn signals, so I need to remove the top of the cougar skull. I was tinkering with it a little last night, but hows it done again? You need to remove the windshield right. Then stab a small tool into the seams where the holes a located and it pops up? Work around the seam to the other side?

Windshield, mirrors/turn signals, dash display, then push all the locking tabs in around the seam.

I will have to look at he IPC in the manual, but are you saying the dispay is mounted to the skull? With hardware or more latches? I just want to get to the turn signal wire connections, do I have to remove the display to do that?

Take the windshield off, there is a hole on each side above the instruments, clips are in them. The hole for the instruments is the access to the wiring. Hope this is clear enough.

Do not have to remove windshield. Use a 2" finishing nail or small slot screw driver . Slightly pull out safety card above gauges insert nail- screw driver into right slot at the top of the dash to release tab while you slide your finger gentley under top right corner of dash so the tab doesnt reingauge hold it thier while you do the same on the left side. Gently pull top forward while lifting at this point you can disconect gauges or lay to the side. You now have full access to the turn signal conections.

Yes you can get the display out without removing the windshield but to remove the top plastic of the pod or "cougar skull" the windshield has to be off. I would remove the windshield, then remove the dash display / gauges by using a small screwdriver to push on the two locking tabs that hold the display in the top pod. There are two slots that are easily accessed in the top after the windshield is off. Depress one tab and hold out that side of the display while unlocking the second tab. The whole display tilts out from the top and then lifts up and away from the pod. Then unplug the display from the Spyder (one large connector with a locking tab). Stick your hands inside the opening left by the display to unplug both turn signals and unscrew the turn signal / mirror mounts (two screws each side, one under a soft plastic trim piece). That should leave the top plastic of the pod free to come off once all those locking tabs in the seam are released.

If all you want to do is remove the mirrors just pop out the gauge and disconnect the turn signals and unbolt the mirrors.:doorag:

I personally always hated removing the center console - easy to scratch the plastic just under the pull-out card. I would have much rather just have it so you remove the pull-out card and had 2 screws holding the cluster in place.
