• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How do you remove the front cowl on a 2009 GS

I’m trying to remove the front cowl to plug in a new shift cable from the shift switch. I have removed the windshield and the two push pins up front, but no go. Could certainly use some help.

Ok got the cowl kinda loose. Still cannot see where the shift connection goes.

Go to any PARTS suppliers and look at the 'FICHE for that part it will show you where all the attachment points are .... Mike

I just tore into mine this weekend to replace the shift cable assembly. I tied a string onto the old connector pod when I pulled it up out. Put the new assembly on the handlebar, then fished the new cable down thru the mess under the dash and all the other cables. It kept getting hung up in between everything where I couldn't see it and where I couldn't even feel it after following the string.

I took 2 bolts out on the front of that whole front assembly (brass looking, right behind the latch assembly for the frunk), and 2 bolts out on the sides of the steering head. You have to pull the center body panel back to see them. Then I propped that front end up with a piece of 2 x 4, and I could see up & in toward where the connector pod was getting stuck. There was a small rectangular hole there with 2 other cable assemblies running thru it already, and it really didn't look like there was room for this one to fit!

Since I could now see up in there, I used a screwdriver to kind of guide it to center it while pulling on the string. It did come thru then, and I got it plugged in, and everything back together. I now have a reliable reverse again! AND I can down shift without throwing an error message and getting the check engine light! Don't want to do that again right away!
