How common are 2021 RT Ltd air suspension failures?

So I’m back to looking for a RT Ltd and there is one on the showroom floor in my home city. It’s a 2021 with almost 5000 miles on it, the previous owner passed away, and the son is selling it through the dealer. They have it listed for $27,900 Canadian dollars, so that price plus taxes and admin fees. To me it sounds steep, but anyways, to my concerns - how common is it to have air suspension failure? Thanks

I traded my 2021 RT LTD for a 2026 S2S. It was about a little under 5,000 miles and in pretty much as new condition with a full service history.

It had just about every rear suspension problem possible when new, but once everything was replaced under warranty I never had a problem again. It was factory assembly and parts problems from literally day 1. However, that was in the middle of COVID and parts were a big issue as was factory assembly problems due to COVID working. My 2026 S2S has had no issues at all.

I know the dealer sold my trade within two weeks for USD$17,500 plus taxes and document fees no doubt. So I would say, even for currency conversions, CAN$27,000 being USD$19,600 that's possibly a little on the high side depending upon your market availability of course. My dealer obviously priced the unit to sell, so being in the USD$18,500/CAN$25,500 range might be more reasonable, but their price isn't totally off the wall. That unit you show has had the tow package installed as far as I can see, which might bump the price a bit of course.

I'd expect everything to be a little more expensive in Canada due to the general higher cost of most things related to a Canadian dealership overhead. I'd buy the Can Am/B.E.S.T. warranty if you can, then you've nothing to worry about.

I think you have some wiggle room.

That price needs to be negotiated down. Maybe offer paying that 'Out the door'?

I have a 2020 RT Base (not auto-leveling). The airbag (same as the LTD) began to leak after 4 yrs/35k mi. I replaced it with an Elka shock. The only other problem was a bad brake switch. After 6 years/45k mi I'd call the RT 'reliable'.

I would not worry about suspension problems, if it does happen there is a fast and cheap fix to it! The air ride part of the auto suspension system is great when it works, but believe me, it really doesn't need to work the way they have it on some models. Manual fill works fine and has a lot less moving parts!! If you like that bike, buy it, and don't worry about something that can be fixed!

If in Canada that should be 5000 klm which is like a brand new bike. Sounds a bit high in the price for me, what dealer and where is it. I would check dealers across Canada just to get an idea what others are selling and price range. If it was a trade in I bet they only paid 60% of that.

It’s a private sale through a business, they're selling it for the son who’s father passed away.

I would even go as far to call a few dealerships and ask the approximate price for the bike your looking at there are also a few online places where you can get an estimate of what a bike like that is worth. Still search bikes for sale in Canada amazing what you can learn with research

Even at 2021 and only 5000 klm, it has basically been sitting for 5 years. Could have dry seals, battery, spark plugs. I would expect you should be doing a 5 year service, which basically is stripping it down and going over the whole machine. Doing that at least would let you know where you stand with upcoming services etc. I do that every five years, just did mine over the winter. They stripped her down and only found spark plugs and a head light issue. Everything else was fine, but now I know I'm good to go.

I did all my own work on all the bikes I had, but now I rely on the dealer, as two knee replacements and heart operation don't let me crawl around as I used to. This is the main reason I went to a Spyder and I have never regretted it.

Bottom line is what is the bike worth to you? If it is at the dealership ask them for the sons name and you should be able to save yourself several thousand dollars which would be the consignment fee. It is off warranty so you have to decide risk vs reward on buying a new(er) one.

Son is a city cop here so I’m Leary.

$27500 at the dealership probably includes the following: consignment fee 10-15% 27500 x .85=$23375 it may also include GST and PST at the dealer not knowing where you live $23375 x .95= $22,200. An offer of $22K or less directly to the owner will likely get you a bill of sale and that may be the reason he doesn't want to sell from his house? JMO, good luck.
