How about the Winston-Salem area?

I live in Connecticut and have always thought of moving south at some point. Florida is just to darn hot for me so our family has always talked about the Carolina's. Well i still have about 7 years to retirement but someone is trying to hire me in the Winston Salem, North Carolina area. I was hoping some members could give me their opinions on what life is like in that area.

Whats the the climate like, Spyder riding is one of the priorities in life?
Has the economy recovered more or less that most places?
What are wages and employment like in the area?
It looks like the cost of living and housing is a lot less than Connecticut.

im not even sure what all the right questions should be but I'll need to make an educated decision fairly quickly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We're just about the same number of years out... (maybe just an extra one!)
We've been looking at Waynesville... The Magee Valley area.
It looks like some pretty good riding in the area.
My question: How much Winter do you guys get down there? :dontknow:
Ideally; I'd rather have NONE! I'm just not too happy with the thought of 115 degree days in the Summertime; and it seems to take that level of commitment, to be 100% rid of the "White Plague"... :shocked:

I live in the Apex area, (which is about 1.5 hours from Winston Salem). Not sure about the area, never lived there, but I have spent a lot of time in Greensboro which is very close. I like it there. From what my Aunt, who used to live in Connecticut said, it is cleaper to live in N.C.. There are cold and wet days in the winter, but not to the point that you will need to put the spyder in storage. I usually ride all year long, and now that I have a spyder, that will definitely be true. As for riding, you will be about 1.5 hours from the Boone, N.C. area, and the BRP. There are great roads there, and you will never get board. From Winston Salem, you would be able to take 421 to the BRP, follow it down south to Maggie Valley, and then jump on major roads to get you back before dark. On top of that, you would be able to meet, and ride with some of the coolest spyder riders around. As I said, I am not in Winston Salem, but a day ride is always nice. Come on down!

Rainy today in Winston-Salem. But I plan to ride tomorrow. I live in High Point (30 min from winston) but work near downtown Winston-Salem.

NC climate fluctuates. Went duck hunting in 20 degree weather on thanksgiving day and again in 50 degree next day.

The Piedmont/Triad area is nice here. Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem has the two major highways that get you just about anywhere. I-40 East to West and I-85 North to South.

I ride every chance I get and dont "winterize" the bike just in case its 60 on new years day!
