There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.
How about heated gear - what's your favorite? Any other suggestions?

Gerbing or any heated gear that you can also get controllers. Just turning it on/off can get old quick and is distracting.

I'm in Ohio and I don't own a car or truck, just bikes. I have both a Gerbings and a Cycle Gear jacket liner. Both work very well. The Gerbings has a higher collar on it for a bit more neck protection, but I usually use my pullover neck warmer so that doesn't really matter. Gerbings controller is easier to use and I can mount it anywhere with a strip of Velcroe. I really don't think you can go wrong with any choice. Comes down to what is available and maybe who has the best warranty.

I have a 12V First Gear liner that has a tab protruding from the bottom of the jacket with a push button that changes the heat settings. LOVE it!
I chose Gerbing battery-operated gloves as I didn't want to take a lot of time unplugging from the rest of the gear or the bike when making gas and rest stops. Plus I can wear those gloves anywhere else away from the bike and keep my hands warm - ie raking leaves, etc. They are windproof. I LOVE them!
I also purchased a battery-heated Gerbing vest for wearing around the house and outside chores. I am not real fond of it.
It heats well but can't feel the heat that much as it really needs to press FIRMLY against your body to appreciate it and I haven't come up with a way to do that walking around...ie, sit against a couch with your arms crossed in front of you to get contact front and back in order to appreciate the heat. You need to wear a garment over it to sort-of help keep it against you and hold in the heat.
Have been looking at battery-operated heated socks - mostly Gerbing - but, as with all Gerbing products, they are very expensive. Some other brands have a remote control for them which I thought would be handy - until you lose the remote... still on the fence about this garment.

I ride year-round and had 2 pairs of gloves (hot spots) and 1 jacket (wiring) from Gerbing that went bad within 1 year of ownership. The Tourmaster gear has been good for 5+ years and counting.

I also have the same set up as flamewinger, but I have quit using my Gerbing gloves in trade for a set that is battery powered just so I do not have to mess with the gloves being tethered to my jacket. Very comfortable down to 20 degrees. Funny story though. Several years ago I got caught in a weather change at Harrison Arkansas. Colder than the devil, light snow and I could not delay heading home. Went to Wallmart and bought a pair of battery powered socks. Powered up the socks and got on the bike to head down the road. I had not accounted for the fact that the socks would be in close contact with my feet because of the shoes. I didn't make it five miles on the road before I was parked at the side of the road and shucking those socks off because they were burning my feet. Left them in the ditch.

I have Cycle Gear Hotwired jackets. Two. One for me and the other for the Admiral.
They have built in controllers so you don't have the expense of separate units.
The new ones can also be controlled by your cellphone. Mine are the previous generation and don't have this feature.

Another vote for the Tourmaster full jacket from me. I found that Baker Airwings were just as valuable as heated gear if not more valuable. They remove all the draft (slipstream) off your legs arms and chest. They will also deflect the raindrops. I had no clue of just how efficient and effective they were until after I installed them. They don't prove to be quite as effective in the summer as they do in winter if you don't wear a cooling vest or carry a camel pack.

Yet another one in the flamewinger camp here. I have a Gerbing jacket liner and a pair of older Widder gloves. Have never experienced the TourMaster jacket with its built-in controller, but I can say that the Gerbing two-channel controller with remote is absolutely WONDERFUL. The actual controller lives in the inside pocket of the jacket, has a single wire that connects to the bike. That same connection can also be used for your battery tender. The remote is wireless, can be stuck somewhere accessible with some of the industrial-strength Velcro. One channel for the jacket, the other channel for the gloves (or pants, or whatever else you might use). Yes, the controller is about $75 and the remote is another $25, but it's all about COMFORT and CONVENIENCE, right?

I have both Gerbings and Warm and Safe. I like the Warm and Safe better as it seems to be more consistent in heating me all over. I have had to send the Gerbings back for a recall. I do have the full sleeve liners and the gloves that plug into the liner. Never found it a hassle to use them. I also have the Warm and Safe wireless controller. I love it. Warm and Safe will give you a 20% discount if you are an AMA member. First Gear is made by Warm and Safe and BajaRon sells First Gear at a big discount.

I have FirstGear (which is designed and Manufactured by Warm & Safe Heated Gear, LLC) heated jacket and riding pants. The pants are connected to the jacket via a cord.

Always been a fan of the Gerbing gear. But I really didn't like their controller. One of the "techs" at revzilla hooked me up with a First Gear wireless controller that worked great with the Gerbing gear. Made a huge difference ... only had the power cord to deal with.
