There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. How about a poll for the steering recall?

My Spyder has about 1200 miles. It runs great; the engine is starting to loosen up, and luckily I've not had any other problems except for the belt alignment. I have not done the steering recall yet but have read some very mixed reviews about how it ultimately affects the performance of the bike. I plan on waiting a bit longer before I have it done to see if BRP acknowledges a problem and/or offers an improved software upgrade.
I understand that the forum can be a venting arena for those who have problems but it would be interesting to collect stats to (unscientifically) see a quick comparison of riders having problems vs. nonproblems after the upgrade. Does anyone else think this make sense? Could someone think about setting up a poll? Thanks.

Sounds good to me (but I don't have to do the work). I am ordinarily a loyal and positive speaking Spyder owner. As of late I'm becoming concerned. Why not have just the steering update ? Don't mix it with what apparently is causing some people issues. I'm going to wait and see. This apparent fire issue also concerns me and I hope this is addressed quickly one way or another. You shouldn't have to baby sit your unit after parking it. I don't want or need the grief, I just want to ride and enjoy the bike. I don't want to see my dealer or BRP hurt. Good luck. Thanks for the ability to vent.

Mine is going in on Saturday for the 12k / 15k service... but I am going to opt out of the steering update until BRP works out the kinks. I can't afford something to go horribly wrong and the Spyder be stuck in the shop this close to our trip. We have 15k miles and no issues..... if it ain't broke don't fix it!!

Had mine done last Thursday. Steering is a bit more definite, less 'twitchy' around center. All in all, I'm very happy with the change.

Surprisingly (and i've herad this elsewhere too) my gas mileage has improved dramatically. Rode 200 miles on Sunday, 2 up, with over the max weight limit (as defined by CanAm) and got 32mpg in hard riding. Under same conditions several times previously, I got only 25mpg. I have read in a post on this forum that they also changed the fuel management curve in the software update. So far, fom my limited mileage, it seems to be working! I'll report on any improvements I see in mileage while riding single as they become available.

Had it done on Saturday - HDX took it in and I haven't ridden it yet. He took it out last night though and says he saw improvement in the steering (I didn't think I had any bad steering before) and he said it shifts alot easier too (I didn't think I had that problem before either). I have an SM5.

SE5 done last Saturday (8/1) and I had ABSOLUTELY no problems before the updates and ABSOLUTELY no problems after the updates.

:agree:
I have an SM5, with a bit over 2000 miles on it. Had the recall done last week. I had absolutely no problems with my Spyder before the recall, and am having absolutely no problems since the recall.

I had mine done and see a good improvement in the steering. It shifts smoother (I had the ground wire done before this was done). It corners better and now I just checked my gas mileage and it was 42 MPG. I'm very pleased with everything and have had no problems. :2thumbs:

Had mine done yesterday. Talked with the tech for about 30 minutes afterward. He had done about 12 before he did mine yesterday. He said I should see some handling improvements so... I took off and did about 300 miles and I am pleased with the differences in the steering and cornering. Seems to corner a lot flatter. Saw speeds through the twisties improve. At least on the way up to the dam at Lake Berryessa. Enjoyed a wonderful day of riding. I didn't bother checking gas mileage so I guess I will for the next few tanks just to see if there has been a significant increase as some have posted.

I was having no trouble before the upgrade and I am pleased with the riding I have done since. I recommend having it done.

Had it done last week. Steering improved. Shifting possibly more smooth. It's an SM5. It's been really hot and it has been running a bar hotter. It hasn't been this hot before now. So no comparison. All in all, an improvement.

Same here. Bryan, the tech at Pete's Cycle in Baltimore, seemed on top of everything. I walked up to the counter and he told me everything that was needed. We talked for awhile when I picked up the bike and he gave me a pretty good rundown on all service, DIY and in shop, for the next few thousand miles. He also said he surfed this forum and the "other" ones to see what folks were talking about.

How are those with Hindle exhausts fairing?? Looks like "stock is good" and everything else is too lean... just an observation.

Add me to the plus side!!

Had the dps recall done yesterday.......had no problems before....nothing but better things now!!Yes I have the hindle and Ken's air cleaner.....no other performance mods!
Bike ran great before...even better now....really snaps off the line and roll on power is fantastic.Idles smoother especially when cold.Have the performance sway bar so cornering always been good but the upgrade did make it even sweeter.Did request the laptop to be plugged in to wall current......they were going to run on laptop battery...
I said no ......Thanks Lamont for the heads up on that tip!!
I was on the fence and thinking of holding off due to disappointing results some were having but I am more than happy with the 3 patch updates on my unit!

runs pretty rough!

handling is better, runs terrible at this point. check engine light keeps coming on. have aftermarket pipe-micron.

I have the Hindle. Further impressions are that IT'S GREAT since the update!!! Had it out today on rurual roads and highway. Engine is pulling strong!! Ran at normal temperatures. I think my gas mileage has improved. I'll wait for this weekend when I run through a tank and more on a ryde to determine.

Had mine done 2 weeks ago-- :2thumbs:

Steers great - runs great. Still goes like a bat outta hell.
Running mods:

Hindle
Race Air System
Cold-air intakes
Fuel Pressure Mod (62 psi)
Os mod

I just got my spyder back from the dealer. I had the steering recall done and the wiring harness.

I think the difference is night and day. I dont think I had steering assist before working. Its a pleasure to turn now. I have an SE5 and the shifting is much smoother as well.

I feel like its a completely different riding experience. Very happy.

btw i have a hindle and no problems.

Last Saturday. Seems like steering is smoother and easier at certain speeds.

Runs like :cus: at anything above 3 bars on temp gauge.

Hindle, Ken's O2 Sensor ELIMINATOR, 5700 miles, no previous problems.
