Hotel Review......America's Best Value Inn

I've stayed in many hotels over the years and this one was one of the worst.
I'm sure I've stayed for a night here and there in something as bad, but to stay 4 nights in this place was pretty bad.
Overflowing toilets, non-working refrigerators, smoke alarms missing, bad smoke smell in non-smoking rooms, dirty nasty couches, breakfast was a joke, etc...

I'd stay far away from America's Worst Value Inn next year !
I guess it used to be a Motel Sux, but got too nasty even for them.

I tried to book at the Comfort Inn next year but it was booked, so I went with the Econolodge next door which I heard was pretty good... not to mention $20 a night cheaper than the Comfort Inn.

Oh.. and when the 'manager' came up so I could switch rooms she looked about 16, piercings and was barefoot.

Here's a pic of the awesome fire alarm... probably should report them as I'm sure this is a serious violation.

Glad I didn't get your room, other than the bathroom a bit small our room was fine at Americas Best.

You had a refrigerator? Even if it didn't work the cool factor is there...

Breakfast was sucky at best... Our carpet was dirty (white dust footprints from the bed to the window), only 2 pillows, the hot water system worked when it wanted to.... I've been in worse, but this one was close there!!

Hotel rooms are a crap shoot to say the least. There are some interesting places to be found here, and it is more the norm than the occasional situation. Hotel Impossible featured one of the hunting lodge locations.

Last time I went to Honolulu, booked one night at a Best Western (usually pretty good places). Boy did we get surprised. Nuff said. :roflblack:

The bad part, was you had four days of it and no other place to go. One night, tolerable at most--more than that--can be bad.

Best Western's are a hit and miss as well. I stayed in a brand new one on my first trips to Yazoo City, MS and it was a brand new hotel. After a tornado went thru the area, the roof of the place was torn and they STILL were operating, just with tarps and no hot water, especially after most of the business in the area were remodeled. I gave them a second chance until the manager tried to double bill me on my last stay.

BW's used to be my second choice for my travel points but after a few other stays on other properties, I gave up. I got pleanty of points now with Hyatt (love the Hyatt Place) and Holiday Inn.

We stayed at Econo Lodge next door to Comfort Inn. The rooms were VERY nice considering I'm not that crazy with staying at hotels with outside doors.

This hotel has been completely renovated with new beds, new carpet, new furniture, new fixtures in the bathroom. It still had popcorn ceilings (oh my) and you can see where some improvement can be done, but for the money, the staff friendliness, and convenience to the host hotel, MONEY well spent.

The hotel could also have had more on the breakfast menu, imo, but the food they did provide was at least fresh. They offered waffles, toast, small danishes (cheese or fruit filled), fruit, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, orange juice, coffee, milk, and water.

I also took a walk to all four hotels clustered on that side of the road to see what was offered at each and Comfort Inn had the best offering--they are the only hotel that offered eggs and sausage. Days Inn had at least 10 choices for cereal, and had bagels too. Super 8 offered no breakfast that I could see. I guess their guests had to go to McDonald's.

greenStay

i stayed at GreenStay and it was excellent. Great breakfest, washer and dryer which came in very handy. Also had a gym which is why i stayed there.

Super 8

Our rooms at the Super 8 were extremely clean and well kept. Our only problem was the steep stairs and the non working or empty vending machines. The staff was very nice and friendly. They got a repairman to fix the Coke machine. The breakfast was skimpy but okay if you like muffins, toast, or cereal. I would have liked a refrigerator & a microwave but made do. I would not have a problem staying there again.

Hotel blues

With hotels you really do get what you pay for or less. Lets face it, for less than 60 bucks per night I didn't really expect much more from the Americas best Value. I travel a lot with my work and usually stay at one of the Marriott franchises such as Springfield etc. When you get away from the Holiday Inn EXpress, Hampton Inns, and maybe a couple of others you drop off into "other than American" owned hotels. Most of these people have a different idea of what clean and comfort is. Yep, I stay at some of these only when on a bike trip due to the expense involved and the availability of rooms at the better places. If my wife is with me it's a no no. But again, you get what you pay for. It doesn't help that the weather was crappy and we had to be cooped up there more than I would have otherwise.

You don't go to these events for the rooms... the idea is to spend as little time as possible in them anyway!
You must have been watching old Bill Murray movies on the 15" B&W TV all day... ;)
*BING*

Comfort Inn

To be honest, I thought the Comfort inn was marginal. The door lock was falling off the door. I had to fix the tub faucet. The iron was missing as well as the ironing board. The workout room was poor. Old machines which were barely functional. I agree that you get what you pay for.

I like rooms with outside doors when traveling on the bike. No long hallways to carry your stuff down. Just back up to the door and move in. Also easier to keep an eye on the bike and trailer. Our room at the Econo Lodge was OK. It looked pretty nice at first look, new carpet etc. My wife was going to dry her hair and the whole hair dryer pulled right out of the wall. When you went into the bathroom you had to lift the door a good half inch or more to get it to close. The top hinge was totally falling out of the wall. If you sat on the toilet and closed the door there was all kinds of hair like they never clean behind the door. We also lost power one night for about 20 min. The little girl at the desk was so excited that she was able to figure out what breaker to reset. Also it was not a convenient time to have the large semi trailers parked in the lot taking up space. No trucks, just trailers. Looked like they were using them for storage. Parking was a premium when everyone came home at night. I probably would stay again. No big deal. We have a good time wherever we go.

Holiday Inn Express---GREAT PLACE

Just tossing my 2-cents in--

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on St. Louis Street- just not far from Pitbull Powersports. I think we were the ONLY Spyder Owners there which was sad as it was not conducive to meeting others and talking and making friends etc., but this hotel was very very nice. Free USA today each morning- clean- I mean walking on the carpet with white socks, didn't even turn black! (always nice to know) Free breakfast daily, very clean, very nice, and quiet. Free Wi-Fi- etc., Well maintained and no defects detected, not like some of what you all are reporting from the other hotels. Hearing some of this, I am glad we stayed where we did!

Just FYI- for Spyderfest 2014! ;)

The Comfort Inn was pretty nice. We had a suite and everything worked well. The bed was a bit hard for my taste but it was clean. The staff, in my opinion, went out of their way to make our stay as nice as possible. I don't think the female manager, sorry, I forgot her name, even went home. She was there from morning till late night. The housekeeping staff was attentive. Phoebe was a sweetheart. She was our housekeeper. Breakfast is what it is. Unless you're at a hotel that has an in house restaurant, you're at the mercy of what corporate says they'll serve. They did run out of some items on Sunday but I think it was because they didn't realize how many folks would be there on that morning. We did go to the village Inn one morning for a change of pace. I recommend that eatery to anyone. All in all, the staff at Comfort Inn did great. Now, here's a kicker. On the way to Spyderfest we stayed at a Comfort Inn in Tennessee. They were in the middle of remodeling and it showed. The room was clean but the hallways were dirty. Breakfast was horrible, barely warm and edible. On the way home we stayed in a Comfort Inn Suites, again in Tennessee. The outside and lobby were clean and nice. When we got to the room :yikes:. There were empty drink cans and bottles and a half full coffee cup on the dresser. The coffee table looked like someone smeared snot all over it. The bed sheets were dirty and sandy. And the kicker, someone had wiped their nose on one of the pillow cases :barf:We got another room. If it hadn't been late at night, we would have been looking for another place. Corporate will hear from us on that.

We stayed at the Microtel which was less than 2 miles from Pitbull and was about half the cost of the host motel. We always try to stay at Microtel Motels because they are always clean and usually have a great breakfast fare every morning. If I had any complaint about this one it would be that the rooms were a little smaller than the others we have stayed in....but no big deal. We stayed at a Red Roof Inn in Columbus, Ohio on the way out and found our room to be infested with ants and found some in our bed even. I complained to the management and was told they could do nothing but move us to another room but they only had 1 non-smoking room. Went to look at it and it definitely was not a non-smoking room. I had to go out and find some ant spray and we slept on top of the bed with the heat cranked way up. After a long discussion with daytime clerk she refunded our card, but was not happy about it.

Randy, working fire alarms and sprinklers are required in all hotel/motel rooms. NFPA standard 72 requires hard wired single-station smoke alarms in each guest room. NFPA 13 or 13R requires an automatic sprinkler system with a sprinkler head in each guest room. So if the smoke alarm was not functional, they are in violation of that code and the room should not have been occupied.

We stayed at the Super 8. I'll camp before I stay there again. The rate was 12 dollars higher than was quoted, "that IS the Spyderfest rate", half the lights didn't work, there's more, but why bother, I won't be seeing them again.

I made my reservation there because the Comfort Inn was sold out at the time

I arrived on Wed, I am a smoker, and while I know that makes me a leper in some peoples eyes..... when I walked into my smoker's room:shocked::yikes::shocked:, it was like being in a bad movie..... the carpet looked like it hadnt been cleaned in 20 years, the fabric on one of the chairs was peeling off, etc, etc, etc - the only thing missing was some crime scene police tape......

I walked over to the Best Western and they had a room available - sure, it was about $20/night more but...... and the great thing was at the Best Western was they allowed us to turn their conference room into a Spyder Ryders conference room every day and night

I checked out of the Best Value (cough, cough, cough, gag) and checked into the Best Western

the person at the counter at the Best Value tried talking me into taking a better room, which based on the room they put me in would not have been difficult, but I declined their 'offer' - I was then astounded at how long it took them to check me out and issue a refund on my credit card... the guy swiped my card like 10 or more times before he finally said it was done (yes, I am watching my account for nefarious activity....)

DO NOT STAY AT AMERICAS BEST VALUE INN - its not worth the money you think you are saving:banghead::banghead::banghead:

You should definitely contact the fire department authorities about this. :yikes:

I stayed at EconoLodge also. With my bike, I liked the outside doors also, as lyonsden had said.
EconoLodge wasn't by far the best hotel I've ever stayed at but it was clean and comfortable.
I have to say, for me, the hotel staff was amazing !!! They were all super friendly and accommodating.
I had a fun time talking with them. They took great care of me !!
Would I stay there again ?? Oh heck yeah !!!! :-) I already made my reservations there for next year.... :2thumbs:
