• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. HOT seat?

Hi Everyone!! Welp, finally got my "new to me" spyder, 2009 RS and also own a 2 wheel mc. So I have been drivin my Spyder all the time for the last 4 weeks and am trying to get used to the amount of heat and sweat that happens while riding. I am not used to it and wonder if this is a common problem/issue or if there is any suggestions to alleviate or reduce the amount of sweat that occurs. It gets embarrassing when I stop (looks like I pee'd on myself). Thanks for the help!

I would try the spyderpops missing air damn and the air management system. You can also take off the bottom plastic plate on the bottom. This will allow for more air movement.

I would not recommend the spyderpops "missing heat shield" because they are only held on by adhesive and tend to fall off rather quickly.

I never feel a hot seat on my spyder but you could line some of your panels and bottom of your seat with some type of heat shielding tape.

Also make sure you take it in for service, There maybe a blown gasket that is generating more heat.

Hard to say..!!

not knowing what mods you have...I would check the "Y" gaskets. If they are failing it tends to blow heat up in that area. 09's were not that hot and the biggest heat problem is the foot. Spyderpops does have some very helpful add ons for heat management....

Welcome to the forum

Hi,
Congratulations on the Spyder. You can do a search for heat treatment, as there are many threads that bring this subject to light all ready.

Enjoy the ride and Happy Trails...

Forgot to say, buy a RENS sheepskin from an IKEA, makes a lot of difference for me.

Can you dress light clothes?

OR wear adult diapers :roflblack::roflblack: or tell people it's so fast it made me pee:roflblack::roflblack: or ride nude:roflblack::roflblack: or sit on a sheep skin seat cover in a light color and/or use Degree Anti-Perspirant spray.nojoke

+1 on the y gaskets. It won't take long to find out they are good or bad and it costs nothing to check (if you do it yourself).

thanks so much

I really, really appreciate all the solutions/suggestions. Will have to read up on how to get to the "Y" gasket, purchase a RENS, am guessing to attach to the seat somehow. I am a bit handy and mechanical, but real hesitant for some reason to take this thing apart.
I wish there where more Sypderlovers near me to pow-wow with....but this is really great!

Wecome to the club. They do generate sufficient heat. Never seems to be enough when u need it though LOL. Best thing is try to get air flow between u and the seat. Some people say the beads work well:dontknow:
Good luck:clap:

One gal who joined us on the Sunday ride, had a sheepskin similar to mine with some simple straps that connected under her seat.

I have not done anything to mine yet, as I also use mine for a throw on the black leather sofa when not out ryding. I just don't sit up out of the saddle too high in fear it will take flight.

It sure adds awesome insulation from the heat below though and as well, a nice soft cushion to the over all ride. Great if you have less fat back there than others, plus I can jump on my bike even if it has been baking in the hot sun, as the sheepskin completely blocks that heat out.

In the summertime, if temps are up in the 90's (or greater!) and the sun is beating down you're going to get hot on any open-air vehicle there's no getting around that no matter how many wheels the thing has.

Biggest complaints about Spyders and excessive heat was regarding the 2012-13 Spyder RT models (at least some of which were programmed to run way too lean and were thus generating far too much heat in their exhaust systems which would at times make the fuel in their tanks boil, I've read... now that is HOT!). All Spyders dump hot air over your right foot, that's where the radiator and cooling fan are located. If you're getting excessive heat up thru the body panels and your seat, you probably have some mechanical failure going on such as those Y gaskets in the exhaust system.

Check YouTube for lots of videos on how to perform maintenance tasks on your Spyder, from changing the engine oil and filters to checking and adjusting the belt tension, there are how-to videos that can really give you a heads-up on how to get in and under the hood on these machines!

Regards and best wishes! Remember Fall is only a few more months away and THEN you are REALLY going to enjoy the heck outta that RS! In the meantime, enjoy your RS in the early morning or late LATE evening hours if you can stay off it during the heat of the day... I take mine out right at sunset and don't come back home with it till after 10pm some times just because it's cooler outside.

I learned the hard way to always wear long pants, socks and full shoes (boots). My feet get all the heat it seems. My seat never gets the heat (I do get butt rot though).

Enjoy your ride, and welcome to the best side of life!

If you replace the Y gaskets, there are 2 and use the Honda brand - much better than BRP's. They worked great on my former '08 GS
