horn button

Has anyone ever installed a separate horn button, larger and in a less cluttered area on the handlebars. Its bad enuff looking for that stupid little tab during the day but at nite when your attention is focused on what you are going to blow the horn at it can be dangerous. I've heard of new horns but never the "activator". What say you Spydernauts?

Guess you could....

I would have a lever switch on the right hand side on the basis of a short brake lever....:dontknow: easy access and the hand is free anyway.....

I dont know. Some actuator that is larger and is more visable. The battery kill switch for example is in a panic mode area for a switch that is never used. Maybe even in the hub like a car horn which I'm sure some riders have tried honking that peace of crap that no one else hears. Just a conversation starter.

That is one mod that would actually be fairly easy to accomplish, electrically. The horn button is a real button switch that closes the circuit from the horn to ground. Just connect another switch in a parallel circuit from the horn to ground and you've got it!

Don't get me wrong: I've spent LOTS of time finding exactly the wrong button, for the wrong time! pps:
I even considered filing down a thumbtack, and taping it into place. :shocked:
That way; I'd know for SURE, when I'd found the horn button! :yikes:

How about super gluing something on the button to make it bigger and/or change the "center" of it.

Interesting - I was reading a similar problem on a car website where the horn button was on the dash so was difficult to find in a hurry (just when you wanted it), so I suggested a £5 fix. You can buy a small circuit board with a remote push (like a door opener for the car). The switch stays "on" as long as your finger is on the remote button. Release your finger and the switch reverts to off. As I said, £5 on eBay, the link on the UK website is below.

You could wire this to the horn circuit (or even another horn, the relay will take 10 amps) and mount the remote on the handlebars or anywhere else "finger friendly".

Another idea - if you wired this to a separate horn and were off the bike but someone came and tried to sit on it or play with it, then you could press the remote and start the horn - would surely scare anyone away, especially if it was a Seibel or similar.

Alternative....

Maybe an alternative horn is in order.

I've had older metric bikes & a couple of Harley's. I found that the metric horn buttons were lacking in size & I'm sure difficult to use in a panic.

Most button controls are just clamped onto the handle bar. Could the controls that include the horn button be moved to a spot on the bar more convenient?

We used to use a button like that, when mounting a horn on our ATVs. :thumbup:
(They come in handy, when you need the group leader's attention!)
