My hood would not stay up when the key was turned to release it. "SOOO I bought a 1/2 inch by 2 inch compression sprriing at the hardware and covered the end of it with pure silicone and slid it down over the hood locking bolt and closed the hood. after the silicone dried I turned the key and behold the hood popped up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sKEET

There are at least four different trunk spring mods and I still think BRP will either steal one or devise a more complicated fix for this annoying trait.

The easiest fix for this is to turn the bolt that engages the latch in ( make it shorter ) by a few turns, it will make a more water tight fit for the trunk and when you unlatch the trunk the lid will come up enough that it won't relock when you release the key. No extra spring needed--K.I.S.S.

Dropping a 9/16" by 1" long compression spring down the hole where the pin goes is also a very simple and easy fix. It works perfectly!

The only problem with that fix is that, within two months of me doing that to both mine and my wife's spyder, the trunk lids were eventually back to not popping up when unlatched. The trunk weather strip lost its "umph" to pop the lid up. Instead of readjusting the latch pin to further compress the weather strip, we used one of the spring methods.

Yeah, I also had re-adjusted the latch bolt and now I'm ready for the spring method, because it has taken a new set and won't pop up anymore.

While storing Spyder over winter, it might help if you keep the hatch open or at least unlocked so the rubber seal have a chance to "relax" and expand a bit.

That might help but if the foam cells are breaking down due to aging and the constant pressure thus losing the elasticity that they once had, no amount of relaxing can bring that back. I don't think that stuff was designed to be used as a spring. :dontknow:

This mod works great and only cost me 50 cents! It should have been OEM.
