I always wondered about some of these pan handlers.
I saw one asking for money, he was wearing a very nice watch...oops. He got nothing.
I saw another one asking for money and he was clean cut fresh shaved. ...oops. He got nothing.
I saw another one asking for money and he actually had one of those coin change machines on his belt...oops He got nothing.
....it's people like this that ruin it for the ones that really want to help.

'You Drive A Better Car Than Me?' 'Homeless' elderly panhandler caught driving off in a brand new car

Warning: some bad language.

When I was stationed at the Pentagon, a major I worked with came into the office one morning, smoking mad. He took the DC Metro to work every day. That morning, we had an early morning briefing to give and we were all in, extra early to run through it before doing the brief for the brass. It seems that there had been a "homeless veteran" panhandling outside the Metro stop where the major caught the train each morning. He had gotten into the habit of dropping a couple bucks each day into the guy's cup.

This particular morning, he was at the Metro at 5:30 AM, when it started running, to catch the first train and get in early. As he was arriving, he saw a nice car pull up, driven by his "homeless vet." The guy got out, and a hot blonde got out of the passenger side. The guy opened the trunk, pulled out his sign, and changed jackets . . . then puled out some sort of makeup, that the blond applied to his face and hands, to make him look thinner and dirty. She kissed him and drove away, and the :cus: headed to his panhandling spot.

For the next couple weeks, the major showed up early, every day and stood there, telling people the guy was a fake . . . eventually, the guy moved on . . . probably to another Metro stop, since no one was giving him money, there, anymore.

Apparently, it is a booming business some places.

I have seen this sort of thing happen in the past and it is the reason why I don't give money to pan handlers.

offer to give them food, they will say no, they want money. unlike the burger king ad for changing the $5 bill,
you can not buy a car, cigarettes or liquor with a burger. i never give money to them i would prefer to give the
money to a shelter & tell the pan handler to go to one or i would tell them i would give them $10 to clean my
yard.

Good Point!
Offer to meet them at a fast-food joint in order to buy them some food...
Offering them a menial job, works also... :D

I walked a plain clothes footbeat on skid row in Los Angeles for 4 years. This is one thing I learned. The truly homeless have plenty of places to go to get food, and clothing. The churches, missions, and other organizations do a good job of meeting their basic needs. The only reason the truly homeless need money is to buy cigarettes, liquor, or drugs.

If you really want to help them, and have empathy for those in such awful circumstances, then I urge you to NEVER give them money. Rather whenever you see one that tugs at your heart, put a couple of bucks aside for a donation to one of the charities such as The Salvation Army, or Union Rescue Mission. But do not give money to the homeless, it does not make their lives better--it makes them worse.

We had an elderly woman pan handling in Toronto with a real sob story hooked a lot of people...until a reporter followed her a few blocks and saw her getting in her Mercedes.

Some of the panhandlers are very good at what they do and make a very good living at it.

I never give money. Have offered a burger and have always been refused. Money or nothing has been what I have found.

The woman in the video actually has a panhandling permit issued by the city.

A year or so ago there was a couple panhandling on a busy street in town. Yes, I had actually given them money before I took notice they just didn't look like homeless vets as the sign said. I stopped at a store near where they were plying their trade to purchase some supplies. I saw them walking across the parking lot and decided to see where they were headed. They got in to a fairly new Toyota MPV. What really pissed me off is they were military but they weren't homeless. For those of us in the Air Force, they had an AMMO plate on the front of the car. I talked to some of the active duty guys I ride with and they tracked them down. Haven't seen them in a long time.

 A license; for BEGGING???
Why; the next thing you know, there'll be license for selling pot: legally! :yikes:
 Oh... :gaah:

In 2013, I had a guy in a wheel chair come up to me saying he was disabled vet and just got out of the hospital.
He needed 5.00 for some food. He even showed me the Hospital bracelet. Too bad it was dated 1988.
I later found out from the locals that there was a ring of these scammers working 5 blocks wide. They lived in a corner home and pooled their money at the end of the day.

Then there are the "deaf" people selling American Flag and other patriotic pins. I don't know how many I've talked to in sign language that can't talk back. And lately, most of them are Hispanic. Maybe I'm not speaking Spanish when i'm signing to them. :hun:

No don't

Salvation army is a joke too. There's a guy i know, works **** jobs, but blows his money on crap. He also plays darts every week or several times a week in the winter on leagues. He buys and drinks lots of beer. He also typically is living and freeloading off people for his home. When they boot him out he sleeps in his car. He doesn't know how to handle responsibility and he's in his 50s. He's done this for years.

Found out he was getting gas cards from salvation to buy gas, meanwhile had dart and beer money.

I often times i see fully capable young people in groups with dogs begging. Is a disgrace. Also saw people hand off their sign to another who walked far enough away and went on break like a job.

In Las Vegas, they're always "vets." There are more hungry homeless "vets" here than there were people who ever served in the military. Oh, and their car always just broke down or ran out of gas. You'd think they could be a little more creative, like "Money needed for alcohol research."
