There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. hitches

I am getting ready to purchase a trailer hitch for my 2014 RTS and am noticing that aftermarket hitches are considerably cheaper then the hitch sold by BRP even when buying the wiring harness separately. Question is are these hitches of the same quality as the BRP hitches. Feedback on what others have put on their spyders will be appreciated.

Thanks
Larry

I had the same question when I wanted a hitch on my 2014, even though the aftermarket hitches are cheaper I went with the BRP hitch & wiring, installed by Central Florida Power Sports, yes it cost around 1K but I didn't want any problems down the road with warranty work. Now this is just me, some say the aftermarket hitches are good. :dontknow:

Not a problem..!!

the after market one connect the same way and will affect the roadster the same way as the ones made for brp. Warranty will not be affected if there is no proof that this was the cause of any type of problem covered by warranty. They are basically the same. Jmo but the prices are way different...

You mention a cost of around $1k for the hitch from BRP. Does that include all the wiring and installation, or just the hitch? I was out on the Can-Am site the other day and I thought the cost of the hitch was around $500.

compare

The US list price for the BRP RT Hitch Kit is $499.99. This a complete solution, nothing else to buy except installation if you don't want to do it yourself. Ask your dealer for a discount from that price and if he won't give you one buy it from one of the online retailers that will.

Site sponsor http://store.valueaccessories.net/ sells an aftermarket hitch currently on sale for $225. It is similar in design to the BRP hitch in that it is removable without removing the rear wheel axle. Some aftermarket hitch designs are not. This price does not include the wiring harness. That will have to ordered as well and is currently on sale, from Value Accessories for $75. If you wish to have someone install it for you, your dealer may not do it.

So the choice is up to you.

Be careful. There are hitches on Ebay that are real cheap. But they require to you unbolt the axel nuts and use them to bolt on the hitch. These are the ones I would avoid BRP warranty or not.

The only aftermarket hitch I would use is the Show Chrome (Big Bike Parts) sold by sponsor Value Accessory. This unit mounts the same way as the BRP hitch with a long bolt that goes through the axel.

Here is the install instructions for this

Personally the Show Chrome unit looks better than BRP's and the wiring harness looks easier to install. At least to me!
The mud flap is not included like the BRP unit.

My .00002 cents on the matter :)

I bought the BRP hitch from the dealer. It includes the wiring harness for around $500.00. I asked about installation, they quoted me 3 hours labor. I said I'd like to give it a shot myself. I had it installed and fully functional in 1.5 hours.
Don't be afraid of the installation, the instructions are straight forward and the wiring harness is "plug and play". I also bought the BRP adapter harness to allow me to pull the RT622 trailer with any of my other vehicles. It adapts the square BRP trailer plug to an inline 4 pin standard trailer plug.

The older 2010 hitch did in fact take a long time to install due to the wiring. The newer design is not a big deal. So some dealers are probably still quoting the old install time!

Call Honda East...

They're a site sponsor. I paid $437.00, delivered to my door, for mine. I was recently talking with someone on here and they paid $425.00, delivered, from Honda East.

It's pretty easy to install, once you get past taking off the tupperware. Once you do that a few times, it's pretty easy, too.

I bought the BRP hitch, because I wanted the integrated mud flap. I waited until I found a deal on a used hitch from a member, and paid about what the aftermarket hitch costs.
