• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hindle Problems

Up to 500° but note their warning at the bottom of the pic.

I haven't shot the temp on that part of the pipe yet but I'll bet it's below 500 degrees. I'll shoot as soon as my gaskets get here. I just bought a used Hindle too so I can get a true reading on that pipe.

I forgot to add that the reason I suggested JB weld is I used it on my fluxcore welding nozzles to protect the cups and tips. The radiant heat was well over 1000 degrees and it held up pretty darn good.:doorag:

:thumbup: I wasn't sure what the temps would be out on the Hindle but I threw this out there so someone would maybe check into it more before they used it. Next question, would you use JBWeld or either of the two Permatex products as a thread locker?

I just looked up loctite and the blue threadlocker is good for -65° to 300°

I never have but I don't see why it wouldn't work. The only problem I see is you may never get the bolts loose again.:dontknow:

BTW, just a heads up, you may want to make a thorough examination of that hindle when you install it. As you read (the reason for this thread) I bought mine "used" from a member of this site and was told it was only on his bike for a month. By the time I recognized just how bad of shape it was in the previous owner told me that it was my problem for trying to save a buck and that I was on my own...thankfully the rest of you were here to help me out...none the less my "used" hindle is going into the garbage when the new one arrives.(Thanks for the hook up Bone crusher:thumbup:)

No problem...I got my hindle from them as well....when you get the new one, you'll love it...in addition, as atadude alluded to, you should let us know who misled you as this forum is best served for those of us who are honest and want to help one another...
 
To clarify, I think the purchase fell into morally gray area. He made the sale in apparent ignorance and I was a new Spyder owner and didn’t know what I was looking at or listening for. Since I was told the pipe was only a month old, I didn’t anticipate problems any greater than the ones mention (a scuff on the paint from impatience and frustration over loose rivets)


By the time I got the original problems squared away and figured out, I noticed that it was still running badly and too loud. That’s when I discovered the can itself leaking and the majority of the rattles were internal. Unfortunately it took me a month or so to discover all of the issues it really had and the original owner deemed that too much time had elapsed and it was now my problem.

Again, giving him the benefit of the doubt, I don’t believe he made the sell trying to be deceptive; I guess he was just ignorant of the depth of its problems??????


I would strongly suggest that Spyderlovers.com adds a sellers rating to member and vendor profiles. This would be helpful. Most of the people I have dealt with here have been awesome.

I could not get the permatex sealer to work for me. Blew it out in one day. Tried some different stuff that looked like the same thing as the permatex. The only difference I could see was the instructions on how to apply. The permatex said to wet surface before applying and the other did not. That didn't work much better, blew that out in about a week. I still have my leak, when I take the Spyder in for brake replacement I'm going to have the tech fix it.

Yeah, I used the copper at the joint and the first time I attempted to do so it leaked. After that I read the suggestion to barely tighten it, wait for it to fully cure, tighten down again, heat up the pipe, tighten again. This worked for me on the second attempt, there was no longer any leakage at the joint.

None the less, if someone found a better solution I am game. I sooo dont want to deal with any problems with the 2nd pipe.

Any chance I can "buy" your scrap Hindle for a few bucks and the cost of shipping? I might want to play with it a bit, open it up, etc.
 
if you have the skills you may be able to rebuild it...it looks like the leak on the can may be the result of the can rivets coming loose? IDK

Anyway, if you can wait a week or so, I will pack and ship it express for $50 total to your door. I need to get the new one and find the time to do the swap.

Maybe thats too much? I have no idea what shipping would cost...I guessed about $35 bucks for shipping and $15 for the pipe? Anyone ship one of these before?

I tried this stuff as well with the same result, lasted a week.
 
I`ve used Loctite & Permatex threadlocker for years and they are pretty much the same. The blue is removeable and the red is permanent. The only way to loosen screws and bolts that were put together with red threadlocker is to use a tourch and heat them up to red hot to break the bond. So if you want to hold your Hindle heat shields on with screws use the RED threadlocker. It won`t come loose. BTW I built a drag pipe for my :spyder2: using a stainless 90 from NMN and an 18 inch long tailpipe extension from Auto Zone. I was sure glad I had all the garage doors open when I fired it up! I think it would drownd out a Harley. It is crazy loud. Needless to say it is laying on a shelf replaced with a Hindle which I have`nt had long enough to have a problem with.
