There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. HIndle exhaust

Is the Hindle exhaust street legal or not??? When ever I search the web for the Hindle their claim is it is not street legal can anyone clarify this for me. Thanks

:agree:I have had a hindle on my spyder for more than a year and not one problem from police. The good thing about it is that it has the Y factor symbol on it and it says Can Am.

You pose a great question! Most after-market exhausts are not legal...unless your exhaust is ridiculously loud, you're unlikely to attract too much attention. Some states will be switching over to emissions testing...this is a good way for them to make you change your exhaust back to stock...

The police I've spoken with are more concerned with safety on the road than they are with what brand exhaust you have. Many harley owners tend to put on pipes that are far louder than humanly necessary and the police don't go after them. It seems that only when there are complaints from people, neighbors, etc...that the authorities get involved....

The hindle is a great exhaust option and is loud, but not as loud as other systems...please remember that studies show dramatically increased rates of deafness among motorcyclists due to the unnecessary noise from some exhaust systems...

Decibel levels aside, the reason the Hindle is not street legal is that it lacks the catalytic converter the stock exhaust has. This does not allow it to meet USEPA emissions standards for new vehicles. The manufacturer must label the exhaust in this manner in order to sell it, and technically the dealers are not allowed to install them, nor are the vehicles to be used on the street if so equipped.

As to prosecution, it is doubtful that there would be trouble in most states or communities. Laws regarding exhaust noise vary, but the Hindle is comparatively quiet, and can meet some, but not all, of the noise laws. If your state has emissions testing for motorcycles, you may be in a different bind, however. I seriously doubt a Hindle equipped Spyder would pass an emissions test.

Is that why the stock exaust runs hot is because of the cat converter?

Lawyers made Can-Am CYA with that not legal bit.

Scotty, I mentioned the emissions issue...in MD, that keeps coming up for our lovely socialistic legislative body to vote on...sooner or later...argh...

Not legal, but as it was said, it has the Can Am logo and it is on a Can Am bike, most law enforcement officers would not know it is not legal.

I have had 2 state troopers sit on mine and crank it up and 2 local officers, one of whom I let take it around the parking lot. (get in good with the small time cops is useful later !!) Not one word about the exhaust other then a state trooper saying how he liked the sound.

In Louisiana it is illegal to have more then 2 headlights on a motorcycle or motor vehicle on at one time. I drive with my headlights and fog lights on all the time. Been seen by many an officer, no problems. If caught ? $25 ticket, does not go against driving record. Very willing to pay that price for someone seeing me and not running over me !

Someone posted a link to the state motorcycle laws in another post. Reading some of what is illegal in some states makes you scratch your head. :dontknow:

To all that replied

A big thank you :2thumbs:Will probably go with either the Micron or Hindle and thanks again for everyones say in the matter.

Hindle

I have my Hindle here in Texas and no problems, it sounds great.

I have a question, I have installed the BRP back rest but still wobles side ways, do I need to put washers on the frame bolt?

Thanks:spyder2:

Recheck all your bolts for tightness. I had the same problem and found I forgot to completely tighten a bolt; I forget which one now.
