hindel exhaust

:dontknow:just installed the hindel exhaust on my rs this week. have put about 150 miles on it over the last two days. is it normal to get some back-firing from it, when backing off the throttle? i was told that there was no need for any other mods., just basically attach and go. has anyybody had similar resuluts?:dontknow:

Some do and some don't..........My HMF did.

Since your bike is brand new (I'm stating this because I know people are going to tell you your exhaust gaskets are shot), you should try to disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour first to flash your computer. If that don't work you will need the juice box or if your extremely lucky to find a used 02 mod that they no longer make anymore. :thumbup:


Also make sure the connection where you attached the Hindle to your bike is not leaking. Check while it's running.

i'll try the battery disconnect in the morning.
it seemed to fit extremely tight when i put it on. should i have used any silicon or heat proof type caulk on the install?
i'm running plus for fuel. is there any chance the octane has anything to do with it?

I really can't comment on the silicone because I don't own that particular pipe. My HMF didn't need it, but I don't want to give you wrong advice.


Octane I'm sure has nothing to do with it. It's running lean, which is causing the popping in decel.

I've had my hindle for about 3.5 years now...and no, you do not need any silicone. However, the gaskets should be replaced in favor of the honda ones...they are vastly superior and will actually last.

I have the juice box and green filter...you'll likely need one or the other if you run the hindle as it's wide open compared with the stock pipe.

As far as disconnecting the battery...yes, I did that although some here say you don't need to. I followed the directions which stated that you should disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and then run the bike (idle) for 15 minutes once all is installed...it re-maps it...

Regardless, I'd get the green filter and juice box (or JB pro)...

You'll love the hindle. Oh, go out and get some loctite brand 'crazy glue'. You'll need it for when the rivets get loose...and they will...there is NO need to do anything other than put the loctite glue in there....I did this about 2 years ago and they have not come loose yet...others put in screws, remove the heat shield, etc...do the best and easiest thing, just glue the darn rivets down and they'll hold...it works...you might just want to glue them now so you won't have rattling later...

I'm dealing with the Hindle issues as well. I'm going in for an ECM update next week that my dealer said may help. I'll let you know...

Not to burst your bubble, but I've seen a few posts regarding this and the ECM "update". Placebo or not, many have opted for a fuel controller afterwards.
I tried to run an HMF without a controller and it ran, but was symptomatic of an overly lean fuel condition.
Added fuel, problem solved.

I will say this...after the most recent 'update', my bike has been running a lot more rough. I added the belt tensioner as one fix...have been really adjusting the juice box and it's having a major effect...almost there.

I have a 2008 and when I first got it (and the JB), I had to crank the JB up...as Can-Am started making the mixture richer with each update, I was dialing down the JB...it appears that this might've been the first update (and I hadn't had one in over a year) that actually made the mixture leaner...(or it could be something else)....the only major change was switch to all synthetic oil (BRP). I have been pumping the JB back up and it's helping a lot...

Have you guys that installed a JB/JB Pro noticed a drop in fuel economy? I'm getting upwards of 35/per since the hot weather hit with a Hindle, and am reluctant to add a mod that might screw that up.

Other than the de-cel popping is it so lean that it could harm the engine? I'm assuming BRP did some testing before putting their name on this product. I know.....ASS...U...ME!! :roflblack:

You spent the money for the pipe, seems a shame not to give her a little fuel... 200$ and a couple hours and you will have a entirely different bike.

Decel popping/backfires are eliminated with a JB pro and I installed it two weeks ago.

Will just a slip on pipe hurt the bike? I doubt it. Change the intake with the pipe and it will intensify the fuel issue and run the risk of damage.

I agree.....I just had my bike 08 GS in for work. The latest ECM update that I have seems to make the bike run a little rougher. I am running totally stock and I can hear decel popping under certain conditions. Its hard to hear...but thats cuz the stock exhaust is so quiet.

I get the popping when just starting to apply the throttle after decel.....like if I back off going down a hill it will pop 3 or 4 times when I get back in it. The ragged running bugs me more, hesitation from traffic lights, hesitation when shifting, etc. Seems worse in the hot weather.

Fuel economy drop? Don't think so...you might be in worse shape without it as the computer might try to compensate and end up screwing things more. If you're getting coasting and then hit the throttle..and get a pop, you're likely running too lean. You do not want this and a JB or JB Pro will fix this. There's no point in running lean if you don't have to...it will strain your engine more over time as the popping is telling you something is wrong.

Fix the problem and enhance your ride...it's well worth it...
