High Cost of Triking a Motorcycle

When I get someone's face expression and "OMG how expensive" response to someone's inquire on how much I spent on it, it always :banghead: inside of me. Makes you wonder how much they really want to get into the world of 2-3 wheels. For a lot less than a brand new Tri-Glide or a used triked GW, which the Honda warranty goes out the door when converted, you can get a fully loaded Spyder.

Of course... nice guy that I am ;), I explain to these poor uninstructed lookers the comparisons...:coffee:

It's actually not that expensive...
Just ask Scotty! :roflblack:

The difference is my project was just the reverse.....motorizing a tricycle, not triking a motorcycle. :roflblack:

Late 1960's to early 1970's

Somewhere in that era my kid brother cut up a perfectly good Schwinn Stingray bicycle to make a mini bike out of it. It ended up in the junk pile but for the short while he had it running he had some fun on it. I'm thinking maybe it had a 3 horsepower Tecumseh motor and could do maybe 25 to 30 mph. Your tricycle pics made me remember that.

I triked my 2012 goldwing with a roadsmith conversion. now have spent $65000 on it

And you all think the spider is expensive

lmao

You sure you didn't misread something? I think the general consensus is that compared to other trike options the Spyder is quite economical. :ohyea: Or am I just missing some sarcasm here? :dontknow:

TRIKES ? ? ?

You'll be watching the back-end of this every time you step up. The Spyder CANNOT engineering-wise keep up with this. Even if you turned off Nanny you would reach V-max and flip. :opps:

Weve built 5 specials so far last over the last 3 years learning a lot. We hope to build 4 standards starting July 2014.

.....I don't think you understood my post.......I was stating that the REVERSE trike was a better handling MTC than the NORMAL trike ( ie two wheels in the rear ) like a HD tri-glide or a GW trike conversersion.....................Do you get it now , Mike

Oh I just took the, any trike, part of the comment to mean any tike true!! So I did mistake your intent my apologies. I hope the Spyder continues to improve its bike I wanted to build my leaning trike on one but no-one even in the Spyder community would take that on so having found the other failed electric controlled leaning trikes I reverted to a manual solution.

An electronic controlled version that Can Am could possible develop could be a lot more elegant. They have patented a lot of parts for a leaner but electronically controlled banking is hard enough to control in the air as fighter manufacturers know so I hope they can crack that egg for more Spyder riders because I think that 1340cc is a pearler.

And I thought the guy in our GWRRA chapter who spent $52,000 on his HD trike had gone way overboard! What did you do that enabled you to spend that much, a $20,000 paint job? I have a hard time imagining how one could put that much $$ into a trike, even if it is a 'wing!

Wow. That must have taken some effort. $65k?? Wow.

I bought my wing used, a 2003 with a 2009 Champion kit, 16,000 miles at the end of last riding season. I paid less than $17k for the trike. No way that I'd spend $65k on any motorcycle. Heck, that price is not normal for a brand new 2014 Wing Trike. They can be bought all day, every day at Honda of Russellville in the low-mid $30k range advertised. Probably less with cash.

Just gotta shop shop around to find a deal. I drove to Nebraska to pick up mine. Totally worth it.

But $65k,,, wow.

To me anyhow if you sit in it side-by-side like in a car and have a steering wheel and drive it like a car, then it's a car. No matter how many wheels it has. Just my humble opinion.
