• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hide a key

Anyone have a good spot to hide their extra key on the Spyder. Dang near locked my key in the frunk while on a trip and was 1,300 miles away from my extra key. Usually bring the extra with me but got in a hurry and forgot. Thinking a hide a key might be a good idea.
 
If you lock your key in the front trunk you can get into it by removing the speaker grill on the left, reach in and find the cable and give it a yank and you can open the trunk. Joe and I always carry each others spare key.
 
I velcroed a non-chip key to the inside surface of the mirror where it attaches to the bike. I then can use that to unlock the seat and the trunk. I use the Torx driver from the tool kit to remove the passenger seat back behind which is a clone copy of the chip key. Yeah, it's a lot of steps but I figure that will greatly deter anyone trying to figure out to steal it. Besides, it'll be a lot less hassle than trying to get a chip key from a dealer in an emergency mode! :)
 
I carry an ILCO X270 (nonchipped) in my billfold that allows me to access the Frunk where I keep my spare key (X80) also works but harder to find) You may have to gently file the 270 so that it works smoothly.
 
Throw a non-chipped key into your glovebox... The only folks who'll know that the spot even exists, are other RT jockeys. They've already got their bikes, so they'll leave yours alone! :thumbup:
 
I put a non-chip key in a magnetic key case on the exterior frame - somewhere! :D I keep my spare original key in the trunk. If I lose my key or lock myself out, I grab the magnetic case and I can unlock the trunk to get the spare. Now, if I could just remember where I hid that key case!!!! :banghead: :roflblack:

IF you relay on the magnet to keep it in place; I wonder how much of a bump it would take to dislodge it? :yikes:
I'd rather drill a hole in an un-chipped key, and wire it tightly to something underneath the bodywork.
(Perhaps under the cover that you remove for oil changes??? )

Lamont makes a key cover called an IPS you leave the key in the ignition but you can't tell it's there. Check with him it's pretty cool looking.

I like the idea about others carrying the spare key. I always have the "other" key in one of my pockets.
 
That also works; right up until you take a solo ride... :shocked:

In short; rely on yourself to save the day! :thumbup:
