HID + Fog Lights Requires Special Harness

My Spyder (1943) finally showed up last Friday (2/29/08) and when they went to install my accessories including HID lights and Fog Lights on Saturday they realized that they needed a special harness that had to be special ordered from BRP. They told me that you could do HID or Fog Lights but not both without it. Because of that, i'm out another $150 + shipping. I told my dealer to over night it but he is saying it may be in by Friday. Meanwhile, my Spyder is sitting there stripped in one of their mega-bays back in their shop.

Has anyone else run into this issue and how did your dealer handle it? I can't believe they charged me an extra $150 after spending $$$$$ on the two kits.

Oooh...... I ordered both the fogs and HID too...... I think I'm just going to wait and see..... but for the price of those two options.... no way would I pay an additional $150.... especially since I have it on the contract for the set price..... didn't you have your price in writing?

:( I ordered and paid over $500.00 for the Fog Lights, Trunk Liner and 12 volt adapter back in Oct 07, before I even took delivery of my Spyder! I picked up #133 Nov 29, 2007 and am still waiting! :edit: I have been calling the Dealer, they don't ever call me for anything...After being told they would be in with my Spyder, then they were backordered till Feb...now I'm told March 12! I hope they don't tell me they can't install them without a harness or that I have to wait longer! :spyder:

me too i waited almost 4months for my fog lites i had my HID's now i need a special wiring harrness why in the hell dont some people tell you these things when you order these things :edit: how much now!!! And to top it off i heared the the hindle is delayed again :edit:now when is the rest of the stuff going to be releast 2009 :edit:the worst part is my dealer dose not know when i call brp thy said call my dealer you know that deal

I guess it's a good thing that I ordered so long ago and when I placed the order I made it clear that I wanted all the accessories installed before I picked it up. I did this because of two reasons:

1. I have a 2007 F350 that I ordered a bedliner for when I bought it new in March of 2007..... dealer didn't put one in before I picked it up and I have yet to go back to get that done and they're 25 min away from my house.....

2. Spyder dealer is over 2hrs away..........

My special harness showed up today but when I showed up at the dealer to pick it up 1 hour before closing tonight, they were still finalizing some issues with my Scorpio alarm system and some body panels. The mechanic told me he would definitely have it ready tomorrow by 4pm so I am getting pretty pumped up that after 9 long months I will finally have my baby!!!

Regarding the Hindle being further delayed...if it's not in soon I will probably cancel my order and start looking at the solution Lamont came up with. I really like the sound of Lamont's SuperTrap pipe on his M109 and am thinking that I might go that route.

that might be but i think its is really stupid of brp to do.I know that things come up but for this to be carried this far with parts that should have addressed a long time ago im thinking about doing tha same thing i saw this pipe called the tailgunner it spins when the engine runs it looks like a gattlin gun dont know if thats spelled right it has six barrels and comes in chrome or black very cool and different like the spyder

My spouse was able to get the dealership to toss in the extra harness...which should only cost $99.99. Our point was after 6 round trips--which probably cost $$$ in gas-- they had every opportunity to mention any alternate parts needed. Also it was in writing on the "due bill" that I ordered a complete installation kit for both. If there was anything else needed (since the xenon and fog lights were listed on the same order) they should have mentioned it at that time. My pre-paid order was "complete" and they had to provide any missing elements. My husband has installed the xenon and fog lights...working on the charger plug this weekend.

Turns out I mis-understood the dealers price as it was $115.00, not $150. They also charged me $30 shipping so the total price was $145.00. This is unacceptable and those of us that did not have this extra expense disclosed should be compensated. I paid $1299 for the HIDs plus $399 for the Fog Lights = $1698 and then they nickle and dime me for a $115 harness at the very last minute when I had ordered both of these items together over 4 months ago.

Driving away with my new Spyder tonight made the anger fade away but this is a matter of principle. Bombardier needs to do something to compensate us for this major oversight!

Are the HID's that much better? Why are they so expensive?

I drove the Spyder before and after changing to xenon lights. The new lights are many times brighter and well worth the extra cost. Example; I was driving home with a tinted lense and had to lift up the visor when it got dark. With the HID lights, I never needed to raise the visor, I could see as clear as sunset....you know that time of evening that your headlights don't really help? My distance vision is clearer and wider; giving me more time to react to varmits crossing the road. Adding the fog lights, my spouse states that it is like watching a plane land when I drive down the road. Also, be careful of the brights; they really upset some people.
I don't get the cost either, but spouse said that some systems just replace the blub, but this set up requires additional power feeding the blubs, making it brighter. Okay, I don't remember the techical part but it has a "box" on each side of the harness between the power plug and actual light. This must be part of the cost. It sure makes a difference in newer corvettes.

i agree the hIDs lights are worth the money big differents at night you need the best lighting possable safty is my main thing

Don't discount the effect on other drivers during daytime driving. The lights are above average in brightness, blue-ish from an angle. Between the lights and the bright yellow....someone told me that I look like a parade of one. ;D  :a20:
