• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Since no one will answer my question posted in another thread, maybe you will help. My Spyder is locked up for the winter in someone else's garage, and I can't get to it easily. Is the seat gas shock for a GS, the same size as in an RT? I believe the person who started the other thread has a 2014 RT. Thanks Mike.

Hi Ron,
After taking a peek at the parts books:

http://parts.spyder.brp.com/Index.a...diufoe124&catalog_id=0&language_id=1&siteid=1

A 2014 RT uses a "Gaz Shock", with the part number: 708000658
A 2009 GS uses the same item with the part number: 708000479

This may mean that they are different lengths, they have different spring capacities, or they have different ends used to connect them to the bike.

My guess: buy one of the aftermarket ones in the Spring, and give it a try. Just make sure that you can return it...

Good luck!

GS - GAS SHOCK

This is the best I can do ..... in the normal seat open position the shock & piston is 11 3/8th "'s ..... it will extend slightly more if you push the seat up ( just the shock body is 7" )........ I measured the 2014 seat shock at 17 5/8th's in fully extended ( off the Spyder ) the shock body was 10 in.,.......So these shocks are not even close ... I would look at McMaster Carr for something ......jmho...... Mike ..........SEE POST # 7 BELOW ....

GS - GAS SHOCK - RS -RSS - ST etc.

If you need a new GAS shock and can't find one ------- this is what I did .... on the frame, under the seat, in front of the brake fluid containers you will see two PLASTIC pop RIVETS ( ONE PER SIDE ) ....they can be removed and a 1/4 or thinner 5 inch bolt put thru the frame ( no wires there ) get a piece of flat stock steel or aluminum 6 to 9 inch long and put it on the bolt ,..... when you release the seat just pick it up to hold up the seat ...... it will out last the rest of the Spyder with NO MAINTENANCE needed :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:........Mike

Shoot Coz a PM. I think Dan might still have an extra rs/gs shock laying around...or pop the stock shock off next time your over for a visit and take it with you to try to match up during some free time.

I looked up the specs on the replacement shock shown in the video and it is 437 mm extended with an 8 mm barrell and a ball socket on each end. If yours is anywhere close to this then ok. If not keep looking. I like mike's suggestion of making a strut to fit. Never wear out.
