A 2011?
You're good to go!
"Send in the Clones!"
Your key is definitely one of the ones that CAN be cloned!
WTH no he can't!! A BRP blank cannot be made into a clone of another BRP key.

Did you have to send in an Aprilia or BRP key that they extracted the chip out of for your Keyport, or do they have the chips available themselves? I see your Spyder is 2013. To make it work for 2014 and later you would have to send them a BRP key so they can extract the chip to put into the Keyport.:agree: But a lil more helpful info, the non chipped spare is a , key blank ask for the
(Ilco X270) most hardware stores should have it. There is also https://mykeyport.com
That i preferr & allows me to keep the oem keys as spares. Keyport can send you the parts, you get locksmith to clone & cut. Works great for me but maybe not everyone

What year Spyder? Take it back to the dealer after getting it cut. If it's for 2013 or earlier he uses a Master key and does kind of a dance to get the DESS module to recognize the key as legit for your bike. You must have all your keys with you for him to program them in. The chip in the key will already be programmed. I don't think the BRP key chip can be reprogrammed like the Aprilia can be, but maybe it can be. When you have an Aprilia key cloned the DESS module can't tell the difference between it and the BRP key you used for cloning.
If your Spyder is 2014 or later the key is different from 2013 and earlier. You have to have the dealer program it into the system.
In either case, since you paid about $50 for the key the dealer should be willing to program it into your Spyder for no additional charge. If he hasn't charged you for the key yet, then he's waiting for you to bring it in and then he'll charge you. The MSRP of a BRP key is about $50.
Ouch! He sure as h*** doesn't know how to garner goodwill, does he? My dealer sold me the blank, at a slight discount even, and after I had it cut he programmed it gratis.I paid 50 from my dealer he told me to take it to a locksmith to get a cut and then told me to bring it back and for about a half an hour shop rate which would be for my dealer $40-$45 he will reprogram it. So all in all this key will end up costing me 100 bucks which I am not happy at all about. Had I known ahead of time about the key cloning process I could save a ton of money.

For 2013 & earlier only. My RTS is 2014. Wfreysr bought his before he knew about cloning.I thought I made it quite clear when I started this thread that a transponder key can be bought
on the internet for $13.00 then take it to hardware store with one of your original keys and they
can cut and clone the key. I used Ace Hardware, cost $6.00. The key starts and run's my Spyder
same as original. "Will not work on 2014 and up.
When you say you got them programmed are you referring to the procedure of getting the DESS on the Spyder to recognize each key, or are you referring to getting them cloned by a key shop? Are the new keys you bought BRP keys or after market? There's a big difference you need to be aware of.I recently purchased a 2012 RT Limited used with only one key and no owners manual. After getting the keys cut, I went to the local Can-Am dealer and asked them to program them. After 1 1/2 hours of it on the lift (yes they put it up on a lift to program a key!), I decided this was not the place to accomplish this!
After reading these posts, I went to YouTube and found videos made by Finless Bob about programming the replacement keys. I followed Bob’s instructions and had all the keys programmed within a matter of minutes! Thanks to Spyder Lovers and Finless Bob for saving me time, money and lots of frustration!
I wanted an extra key for my 2013 RT, 0rdered a blank key from Lock Pic. com Total cost
with shipping $13.50 took it to my local Ace Hardware with my Can AM key And about five
minutes later they had cut and cloned it for a cost of $6.00 Works perfect.:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:
Clone key in Phoenix Metro
Hello I am in Phoenix, just got the blank from the dealer.
Are there any locksmiths in Mesa/Phoenix who can clone the key for a 2010 Spyder RT?

ya the 13 & prior key can unfortunately confuse newer tec depends on buds :sour: (Red master key still requires working original key)Maybe worth whileHey Stanmrvan. Well, here's the thing. Cloning means that the information from one key is copied onto the chip on another key. The security information is thus identical between the two keys. Idaho is correct. The blank that you bought from your dealer is a BRP OEM key. It has the security code already programmed onto the chip in the key, and that chip can't be over-written. You can't clone that key. That key has to be programmed into your Spyder with a special key we all refer to as the red Master Key.
Instead if you had purchased a blank transponder key with a blank T5 chip in it, then that blank can be cut and cloned even by Ace Hardware.
But, all is not lost. You just need to understand the terminology. Your new blank, the one you got from your dealer, needs to be cut at the hardware store to match your existing working key, and thus will work in your ignition switch. Then, go back to your dealer, who will use the red Master Key and program that key into your Spyder's DESS module. I hope he still has one. He is going to charge you an arm and a leg, but at the end of the day, you will have two keys, with two different security codes, available to use for your machine. He can't just use BUDS for this. On the 2010, he has to use the red Master Key.
If your dealer ends up fumbling the ball on this and you have to start over, you can always revert to cloning yourself a spare key, and using the BRP key that you just go as a paper wight.
Everything anyone ever wanted to know about Spyder Keys for the pre-2014 machines is contained in these two videos:
