• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Was replacing the headlight bulbs on 2010 RS the I dropped the retainer that holds the bulb to the socket which it turns out you need to secure it to the lamp fixture. Got the other one put in but took it out to see if I could find a match and dropped that one in the nether world of the engine as well. Dealer doesn't show the part, BRP couldn't help Hella didn't call back so I started removing body panels. Trike is completely apart in the garage and still can't find them. The weather is finally starting to turn here in Minnesota and I can't ride. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Would replacement LED lights work?
Thanks,
Barry

I have a telescopic magnet that I poke around in dark cavities when I drop something in the bowels of my Spyder. Works a treat at recovering bits & pieces.

:banghead: There is a black hole in every Spyder into which parts enter but do not exit. You are extra lucky as you found it twice.

We were changing a bulb on an ST at a show and I was trying to plug things back in and had to shift the position of my hand while holding a fairly substantial 6 to 8" long plug. I dropped it and couldn't believe that something that big was able to drop completely out of my reach. I had to remove a bunch of panels to retrieve it.

I feel your your pain.

Duct tape

Well I checked everywhere including a motorcycle junk yard, had dealer check with BRP no luck. Looks like VW has one for the Passat but it was $26.00 for one yikes and wasn't sure it it was exact. Trouble with hot glue I may need to change them again
: )
Thats the same parts schematic BRP lead me to and it isn't listed but thanks for posting it. Did order something that looks like it on eBay from China may have it before my dirt nap.

I bought some 3M heavy duty duct tape and taped it in haven't ridden it yet so we'll see. I do find it truly amazing that you can't find a part like that. Rode BMW's for years and if you wanted a part for 1969 you had it two days.
I have two magnets one spring loaded and ran them all over the engine bay without any luck they just disappeared.
Thanks for the posts.

No lights

Driving as it started to get dark last night noticed there essentially was no light shining more than 2 feet in front of bike, duct tape doesn't hold bulbs in place.
Does anybody know if I put in led bulbs if they need the same retainer?
Thanks,
Barry

You;'ve been playing around with this for a week and a half. :banghead:
Go to the Dealer, and get the part that you need...

Dealer

Went to the dealer right away they don't have it and can't get it. I hung around while he talked to BRP tech for 30 minutes and they couldn't help. I could buy the whole headlight assembly for $246 each to get the clip but can't bring myself to do that.

Salvage yards

If you read upstream you will notice that I have. Have checked with 2 dealers BRP directly several times, Hella the manufacturer of the headlight. Going to check with Xenon Depot on Monday hoping that any replacement set up doesn't require the mystery clip : )

Fix

Take the headlight assembly out of the bike. The wire bail you lost can be fabricated using spring steel, and a bender. Fork seal springs from a Honda rebel might work. The Plan B: use aluminum strap and screws to hold bulb in. Reinstall headlight assembly. I would install LED's, and be done with it. They should last the life of the bike. Plan C: buy new headlight assembly. Plan D: ride it to Las Vegas, and I'll fix it! Joe

LEDS

I would put leds in in a minute if I knew they came with something that would attach them to the housing properly

Help

Two things I've used when looseing parts inside fairings etc. depending on how large it is try using high pressure air to possibly blow it out (this usually moves screws, nuts and smaller bolts) next is a flexible mechanics magnet usually about 3' long sometimes with either or both the magnet and gripper fingers on the end. Worth a try.

Split the dash?

Got a couple of VW clips that look similar on Amazon, they didn't work but I managed to cut my thumb to the bone.
Been searching for a way to split the dash to access the headlight housings and can't find instructions any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Barry
