Help with saddlebag installation

I purchased the new BRP saddlebags from srspyder.:2thumbs: They are in excellent shape. Now my problem. They could not find the installation directions. :gaah: I have tried searching the posts to find a complete set. No luck. Found some excellent tips and helpful photos but without even the basic direction I not sure where to start. If anyone has a set or a PDF file I would most appreciate the help. Mike

i had the same problem, there is a set of pictures in the how to forum that helped a lot.
be careful tightening the bolts in the footpeg casting as i stripped one of mine.
only took me 3 hours to install without instructions.

good luck!

Thanks to all who sent information and pictures. All this help is very much appreciated. Rain today so I will start removing the tupperware and hopefully get started.

Rain here in NL today, also - just commuted home from the office in some light rain, but not really bad.

Anyways, here is a thread that may also help you along your way.

Just finished mounting the new hard bags. I greatly appreciate all the help and tips I received along with the scanned instruction sheets. Of course I wanted to ride right away to check everything out. Light rain but that is not a problem. Backed out of the shed and started up the driveway. Something made me stop and recheck the attachment of the bags. The right bag was firmly latched but when I grabbed the left bag it came right off in my hands. The bracket was firmly attached but the latch did not seat correctly. Back to the shed:lecturef_smilie: and then followed firefly's and NancysToy's advice. Secure the bags and then tighten down the bolts. Loosed the bolts up, attached the bag and then snugged the bolts. Now the bag fits tightly and easily latches and unlatches from the frame. Don't know why I stopped to check the bags before the first ride but I am very glad I did. Would have hated to have one bag fly off on the maiden voyage. Again thanks to all for the help. Without it I would still be confused and :cus:muttering to myself.

Pictures?

I've considered buying the BRP saddlebags, but I would probably leave the bags off the bike most of the time and I'm concerned about what it looks like with the bags off. I'm wondering how much hardware remains and how strange it might look. Any chance you can show a picture with the bags off?

I tried to upload two pictures. I also thought that I would remove the bags when not needed. It is very easy and removing the rack is also easy, just 3 quick turn bolts. Now I find I leave the bags on as they sure come in handy. I also added the rear foot peg extensions and that made the ride better for the wife. Without the extensions the bags were very much in the way for any passenger.

BRP Saddlebags

Thanks Mike. The pictures help a lot. But you mentioned that the stock pegs could get in the way. I've removed my stock pegs and installed passenger (and driver) floorboards. From what I can tell, my floorboards would be well out of the way. But I'd want to be sure before I order them. Here's a picture from the side of my Spyder. Can you tell if there would be any interference?
Thanks,
Rick

Hey Rick,

I don't think it will work without some extra work. I took a closer look at your floorboard and it looks like there's a cover guard over the floorboard's side bolt. If you look at the instructions, you will notice the BRP mounting brackets adds a second bolt location (one lowers the exhaust to clear the bag and the second is required to support the foot peg).

I've posted a side view of the BRP bags mounted on the bike and it looks like it should clear your floorboard.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Stanley

Thanks Stanley. You're right. I may need to make a modification to my floorboards in order to accommodate the saddlebags. If so, I really want to know now anyway because I'm planning on selling floorboards soon and I want them to fit as many Spyders as possible.
Thanks again!
Rick

I agree that the bags should clear the floor boards. Not sure how much of the floorboard the passenger will be able to use with the bags in place. Wife likes the extensions because it also gives her something to brace her foot/leg against. With the standard location pegs she felt that she was right on top of the peg and when slowing down felt like she could only use her hands to keep from sliding forward.

When you remove the bags there is a Tool you get with them that allows you to remove the bag holder with just a 1/4 turn of 3 bolts or latches. so you are near stock look

Just an FYI the Bags have 2 support wires inside that are attached with a plastic screw or push pin. Pitch them and replace with a stainless screw. if you don't hang on to the bags outer cover when you open them on the bike the pins will come out and the bag will open all the way to the ground and will damage the bag

Givi is aware of this problem and replaced my color inserts when my bag opened and scuffed the road. Can AM would not even respond to me but John at Givi in CA is great :2thumbs:

My screws also came out as many did. I just removed the straps and screws altogether. I like it better now-- you can open the bags all the way flat on your bed to pack and unpack. I never carry anything in them that I need to access while on the road-- that's what the trunk and top case are good for n

Saddlebags

Do the saddlebag mounts require the extension and relocation of the signal lights ? If so does the signal light extension etc. have to be removed in order to get the left side upper plastic panel off in order to access the battery ?

The answer is yes to both questions.

Yes. There are two bolts per signal light extension that attache to the rear of the frame. It only five minutes more to remove the each upper side panel. It a not a hard job to install the saddlebags.
