• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. :helpsmilie:I had the CB installed with the communication system on my RT. Initially I had constant helmet to helmet communication, but I would pick up other cb chatter. This week on a trip i was trying to reduce the cb chatter while riding. Something I did caused me to lose the constant on communcation. Now it only works if I hit the PTT. Okay by me, but not for the chatterbox behind me.:shemademe_smilie: Anyone know how can restore the helmet to helmet and peace in the family?

As far as the constant communication goes, adjust your VOX (Voice Operated Transmission) setting in the menu, until it is to your liking. You can cut down some chatter by adjusting the CB squelch, but chatter is the nature of CB, especially on some channels and in some areas. If you don't need the CB, turn it off or switch channels.

Help on RECC settings

CB is new to me. Someone explain to me where my settings should be for best intercomm reception.

The CB/Comm System is two different functions, combined. The intercom is your helmet-to-helmet communications. The CB is an external Citizens Band radio, so you can talk to other radio operators, either fixed-base units, autos/trucks, or other CB equipped bikes. The two have separate settings and separate functions, which are integrated into one control, one display, and one audio system, in the Spyder.

Where you put your settings is pretty much up to your particular local conditions, and your preferences. The first thing you need to do is to go into the Preferences screen to get to your settings, to make sure your headsets are enabled. The choices are the speakers, helmets, or both. I am not sure, but I think the rear helmet volume is controlled separately, from the rear grip control. Make sure it is set up loud enough to be heard. Set your audio source (radio or iPod) speaker volume to the desired level, as a reference point. You can then turn off the audio source, if you wish. Now you are ready to set up the CB and Intercom settings.

Switch the display to the CB screen, via the multifunction control on the left handlebar. You will see four sliding scales...CB Squelch, CB Volume, Microphone VOX Level, and Intercom Volume. The scale selected, and the adjustments, are made from the multifunction switch. Squelch is usually adjusted to the point where static is heard over the CB, then back just a little, so it is quiet. This gives maximum sensitivity. If you wish to cut down some of the weaker chatter, you can set it even higher, but this makes longer distance communication spotty. CB Volume should be set to your liking, where the CB can be heard...or it can be turned down altogether...to ignore the CB and just use the intercom feature.

VOX stands for Voice Operated Transmission. Basically, when you speak into the microphone, the sound triggers the mike, and the other rider can hear you. Too high of a sensitivity, and wind noise and other stray sounds can trigger the system. Also if too high, there may be a delay before the other rider can be heard, or they may not be able to be heard at all. Too low, and your voice may not trigger the VOX, especially over the sound of the wind or engine. Adjust to where it works well for you. It may have to be changed slightly, under different riding conditions. The Intercom Volume sets the voice level heard over the intercom. If all the way down, the other rider will not be heard, basically turning the intercom off. Adjust to your liking.

I have a different comm system, so I cannot provide any additional tips or details, but this should give you an idea of what does what, so you can play with your system and get things to work for you. If these features do not work, or the CB screen in not available, see your dealer.

We have had problems setting our helmet to helmet communication
We had the brp cb system installed when we bought our new 2011 RTSm5 and had not been able to talk unless he used the ptt then I had to poke him in the ribs to let him know I wanted to talk. Hopefully your setting suggestions will do the trick. When he gets home we will go out and try these settings, I hope this works for us. We live in Texas and have to ride 50 miles into New Mexico to the Can Am dealer for service. So if this does it then we are set for now. We did get the Service Package for 3 years the life of our mortgage so God Willing all will be pleasant riding and few problems. We traded our 2008 Gold Wing and at times doubt our decision but have found this Spyder riding easier on the body

We have the BRP system and we love it. We have our settings for intercom volume about half way up. The mic is adjusted about one-third way up most of time. The mic adjustment is very touchy to wind blowing by, so we adjust it based on whether we have a jaw on the ST-1 helmet (ie; open face vs closed face). I also have the in-line PTT for the passenger in case she wants to talk on the CB.

Here is something I noticed this morning... I really did not know that it operated this way??? If I turn off the CB the PTT button activated the vox. In the place where the normal TX/RX would appear the letters VOX appear and the intercom in activated.... Live and learn

May I ask you a question about the ST1 audio. I have the same helmet and the sound through the headset is muffled. The audio from my Ipod and radio is the same. It sounds like I'm listening through a pound of cotton. The cost of the helmet was high with the sound option and I think it sould be bright and clear. Could you tell me how it compares to your headset. Thanks, Bob

Recordingguy,

Picture wearing a pair of headphones an inch in front of your ears and a half inch away from touching your skin. Sound quality would really suck. Now, pack the space between your headphones and your head with foam rubber, now it's muffled. This may be similar to how the headphones in your helmet are oriented to your ears.

To correct this, you need to customize your headset positions (in your helmet) so the speakers are properly oriented to your ears. This will likely involve both moving the speaker up or down, forward or rearward AND possibly moving the speakers closer to your head.

The best way to find that "sweet spot" is to remove the speakers completely from your helmet, hook them to an audio source and place them on your ears. Move them around until you get the very best sound. Now you know what they sound like when you have them properly positioned. Next, reinstall them into your helmet and begin the process of moving them around until you get that same "sweet spot", or at least as close to it as possible. When you find it, you'll know it. Provided you have a quality headset, you should have close to full fidelity, including bass. You'll also find that you won't have to run the volume up as high to clearly hear them.

Obviously, this is something that each individual user will need to do to get the best results. Purchasing a helmet with the headset already installed is a best guess as far as the speaker positioning is concerned.

Good luck!

To position helmet speakers in my helmets, I remove the cheekpads, reach my hand inside to locate my earhole, then place a small piece of masking tape on the helmet in that spot. Then I remove the helmet, install the cheekpads, and put the speakers where the tape was. Sometimes the cheekpads/helmet liner need some modification to fit. Try it out, and move the speakers slightly, or shim them out to be closer to your ears, aif necessary, nd you are in business. This is one place where 1/2" can make a big difference. Helmet speakers do not have to be off by much to be inaudible.

Just curious...
Does your back seat rider have the ptt cable installed in line to the helmet?
To the best of my knowledge back seat cannot talk on intercom unless this is installed :(
Part # 4474760090 cost $48 @ Honda East Toledo
Oh sorry...USA ...PLUS TAX !!!
Should eliminate the bruised back.
cheers
Pete

Thanks Guy's! I think that is the solution for audible sound quality with my helmet. I bought my ST1 helmet with the mike and ear phones installed. It took a long time to get them from BRP. When they came in only one ear worked. The CB did not work with them either. The dealer purchased the earphones and mike from BRP and I installed them. The CB worked again but the sound is off. I now know that I need to follow your advice about alineing them to ears. Thanks alot. Bob

You should not need the PTT to talk on the intercom. Adjust the VOX until the microphone triggers automatically when the passenger/rider speaks.

Sooo... Radgirl and I just had the CB Comm system & Entertainment harness installed (they were backordered when we bought the bike). And we have the BRP-1 helmets. And... things are not going as planned. :) Hence my query here.

On the helmets, we have the mic's seated well in their sockets. And we have the wired cords plugged in tightly to the sockets on the bike. On the Preferences menu, I've turned off the external speakers, and have the headsets turned on. When I turn up the radio volume, both of us can here music in the helmets, but only out of the left ear. We cannot get any helmet-to-helmet communications at all. On the Audio menu, the Intercom setting (the little microphone) and the VOX setting (the little helmet) were both set in the middle. I've tried moving them both to the max, but still no sound at all. If I push the PPT button on the handlebar, my wife can hear me in her helmet (again, just on the left). Since we don't have a PPT cable for her in the back, we can't see if it works for to do that. But of course, with the VOX that shouldn't be needed anyway.

I don't see any other settings to fiddle with, and haven't seen anything else here in the forum under the various CB threads that seem to address this specifically. Anyone have thoughts, or is it time for a dealer run?

Something sounds like it is wired wrong...My wife has the RT-S SE5 with CB/Intercom and it works flawlessly....Clarity and ease of operation is excellent...Intercom works off of VOX and CB works off of the PTT, in stereo no less...Sounds like a dealer trip to me...
