• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

HELP : rear tire in the wrong direction

:bdh: My manufacturer is 200 km far from home. He did sent me 3 new tires on the new black BRP's wheel. Did change them today. What a pity to discover at the end of the process that he did installed the rear tire ( Kendall ) on the wrong position on the rear wheel...:mad:

Here are my questions ?
Can I drive ? what are the risks , and what about the VSS ?

PS : hope that US dealers are such better that French one... Not difficult I presume... Really want to chage country, maybe should I definitely ask my Green Card !!! :agree:
 
The VSS is not going to care and traction is still going to be OK unless the roads are wet. If it were me I would take it back and make them fix it though!

:agree:Not a problem unless you come across wet or snow covered roads as the groves in the tires won"t shed the water and you are likely to hydro-plane.

In France the speed limit is 130 km/h (110 when wet) = 80.78-68.35 miles/h. The concern is on Germany Autobahn...IMHO change your rear tire nojoke
 
OK, I'am furious against my dealer ... :mad:. We'll go to change it new w.e. and won't move far from mySpyder during the mods, cause I don't want them to brake my brant new rear wheel. Want to be sure of my tension belt and tension too. ( thanks for all you tutorials).

Too bad. But you should get it changed. Directional tires can be tempermental if mounted the wrong way (some more than others). The more aggressive the tread, the more important it is to get mounted correctly.

I would think my Toyo T1R would really not be happy mounted backwards. Certainly wet traction is going to be very compromised. Dry traction probably not so much (as mentioned already).

It will probably be quieter mounted correctly and your wear pattern and mileage will probably be better as well.

Don't know if it is still an issue but they also had cord separation issues with mis-mounted directional tires at one time.

They call them Directional tires because they only run safely in one direction.
Turn it around! For safety reasons. And peace of mind.
 
The whole idea of a directional tire is to maximize all performance functions. They are engineered assuming drive thrust, etc., will come from only 1 rotational direction. Omni-directional abilities are not only sacrificed but not even considered.

The only way to determine how great the negative effects would be is to run it (not recommended) or find a tire engineer that can tell you exactly why it's not recommended to run them backwards. I beleive there is a definite pattern here about how to proceed.

It is probably much less an issue on a non-drive wheel (though you'd still lose some performance). But I'd say it's critical on a drive wheel.

Added: I've been reading a few technical reports. All highly recommend mounting a directional tire the correct way (not surprising). Some say it doesn't make all that much difference, necessarily. Others say it can make a big difference wet or dry. It may depend as much on tire design as it does on the fact that it is directional. I know some directional tires look pretty much like standard tires. Others, like my Toyo T1R, look pretty radically directional. I would not want to mount my Toyo backwards.
