I only support helmet (and seatbelt for that matter) laws for those under 18 years of age. Once you're an adult - you should be able to make adult decisions. If my insurance wants to charge me more because I choose not to wear a helmet-- then so be it --- but let ME make that choice.

I don't buy the 'insurance costs' argument that most use. Not wearing a helmet might increase your chances of death --- which would be cheaper than keeping you on life support for 20 years. Conversely there could be others that don't wear a helmet and end up a veggie due to not wearing it. Seems like a wash to me most likely.

Not wearing a helmet is stupid--- but sometimes I just like being stupid!:thumbup: (and yes--- I have the pictures to prove it....... :roflblack

6. Reason? - I believe in the freedom to choose. I do not like seat belts in cars either. I don't like anything anyone forces me to do. BUT I DO wear a helmet - most of time. I just don't like being told I HAVE TO .

I just wanted to add even if there was no helmet law i would wear one.
I feel the same about seat belts also we need harsher penalties for the cellphone.

If your state/province does not provide coverage for the effects of head trauma then they should not make mandatory helmet laws. On the other hand, if they carry the liability of taking care of your life long head injury then they have the right to make helmets mandatory in their jurisdiction.

6. Reason? Freedom is good -- stupid is bad. At 35 I never used my helmet. At 70 on a much safer machine (Spyder vs conventional 2 wheeler) I never ride without it.

Paper Done

For anyone interested, here are some of the results from my survey. (I got an A on the paper! WOO HOO)

There were 93 total respondents.

74% support mandatory law, 26% against

80% of females and 62% of males support

Of the ones who currently have a motorcycle license (18 total), 10 did not support mandatory law (3 female, 7 male). The other (all male) riders were for the law.

Another interesting fact was that people on either end of the age range were more supportive of a mandatory law then people in the middle ranges.
