• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Been going crazy waiting on the delivery of my spyder, spending alot of time reading ever thread and comment posted by this great web of spyder lovers and asking tons of questions making plans for when she hits. Went thru hundred of pics thinking of custom graphics for her when she gets here then started thinking of the mods that I will have to do, highway pegs, graphics, saddles, windsheilds, risers, led and neon lights, mufflers, helmet to helmet communications with cb and music capibilities, and the list goes on forever and the price tags seems to be getting bigger with each thought. Actually it is already so for over my budget that the national debt looks small to me now.

I have on order a basic red spyder with fog lights, 12 volt power plug (which I still dont know exactly where it is mounted or what I will use it for), sports rack and passenger back rest.

So here is the question I want to pose to everyone, what is your opinion on additional needed accessories and mods an the priority of which should be first? I am thinking your answers will help fill in the wait time as well as help me develope a game plan for when she gets here plus give me some insight as to how much of a loan I am going to need from the bank once she is here lol.

Drive out on the sm5 in red with the sport rack back rest and 12 volt power supply was $18069.00 which includes Texas registration and taxes.

My approach, once I get through Maryland DMV, is to stick to my commitment (easier said than done) of riding for 30 days before I make any MODS. First MODS will be for comfort and safety, then on to looks.

Having said that, I have made one MOD already based on a 40 mile round trip for State Safety Inspection. I purchased a clutch lever that allows me to have it closer to handlebar - I have small hands.

I am awaiting New Street Magic to complete new triple play to go with their LED add on Tail Light.

My next MOD after that might be a windshield, two came with used Spyder, and maybe try the extra exhaust that I have. Windshield is always a tough and expensive experiment for me. Unless you are lucky enough to have Spyder friends that will let you try theirs (I am not so fortunate).

beleve me i had to do some negociating to get the price and i feel it is a good one but it took several calls and several trips to 3 different dealers before i go them that low so while i sure others have gotten better pricing i am happy with mine and fig in 100 miles i want remember the price anyhow....i have thought of the corbin seat but there was a really good thread on here about a company that did custome saddles that everyone talked highly about you sent in the original with pic of you and passenger on bike along with measurements and they custom built you a saddle i thining i may go that way was alot less than corbin and i dont need the back rest since i got it as an accessory on the spyder.....thanks everyone for the input and please keep your thoughts coming on mods and which should be first it is helping with my game plan and filling the time so waiting isnt too bad.....

My advice is to wait, also. Everyone has a different goal, and how they want to get there. Everyone has different needs and likes in the area of handlebars (risers), windshields, and especially seats. The group that visited us this weekend was surprised that Nancy and I have very few mods, all minor. The Spyder is a splendid machine as delivered, IMO. Get it, ride it, then decide what you need, crave, or just plain want.

:agree:

Consider the kewlmetal mirror extensions...by far the most important for your safety!

re acessories

My advice would be to ride and then buy. When I ordered mine from the dealer I printed off the access page from BRP. I check off every accessory they had. I wanted it all. Boy, I'm glad they screwed up and lost or misplaced that page. Shortly after, I found this site and was able to use venders with some awesome track records. I spend 100% of my time on Both Kewl Metals & No magic Neon. Between the 2 of them I can get dang near everything I need. If they don't have it, It's only because they are either making it or inventing it. Both companies have there own Spyders so, that means a lot. They spend countless hours testing to ensure 100% satisfaction. I don't work for either company but, feel like I have stock in both (hehe). They go out of there way, day or night to help us with there products and install information. The prices are real reasonable. I know the first mod I installed was the mirror extentions from Kewl. Looking at them in the box you don't think they would make that big a difference. They do 100% big difference!! The HID lights Magicman sell for a half of the price for the same product brp sells. I got the spyderweb side cover from Kewl and then installed the wizard lights from magicman. Each accessory from both venders compliment each other. I only wish I could upload the photo's so I can show mine off. (Sorry to make such a long story!! My opionion is to talk to both Matt@ KEWL & Evan @ No Magic Neon before you go wasting a bunch of money when they can save you money!!

Thanks,
vwatso

thanks for the input suggestions and advise I take it all in and wiegh it as i am developing my wish or dream list and trying to put everything in the right pecking order. I have been viewing the Kewl metal and no magic sites and yes there is alot that is already on my list of to get just deciding which should be first and filling in the wiat time. thanks everyone for your post and if anyone else has any thoughts i still have a lot of blank space on my wish list page and certainly have too much wait time to go so feel free to add your thoughts and wisdom again thanks everyone....on a side note this is by far the very best message board I have ever had anything to do with no fighting just people wanting to assist others i am glad i stumbled across this one.......

Sure, look at what else Scotty rides in his avatar. The stock Spyder is a HUGE upgrade for him.... :D :D :joke:

My best mod to date has been the NoMagicNeon HID headlights. I would recommend that every Spyder owner get them. If I was 'Warren Buffet' or 'Bill Gates' wealthy, I would give a free set to every Spyder owner on this site. They make a huge difference at a reasonable price. nojoke

Yeah, but I don't actually have a Spyder, I have to borrow my wife's. LOL BTW, when you also ride a sixties Triumph, everything is an upgrade, at least mechanically.

The most important mod is going to be different for everyone. You will have to decide what you like and what think needs improving. Since we have decided to do a lot of long distance riding with our spyders as well as the everyday riding, I wanted to add some things for comfort. For the day to day, if that is all I was ever going to do, stock or close to it would be just fine. But for touring I find that my 4" riser is #1 followed by my cruising footboards. I may change that order after I get my Russell Day Long seat. We will see. I love my HID's and Triple Play and Fender Tipz from NoMagicNeon as well. Of course, I can't forget my custom paint job, that was my first mod I think and I just love it. I could go on and on. Do what you like and show it off to all of us and have fun.

:congrats: Just a thought on the seat as my husband and I have gone through a bunch through the years from several sites. Everybody has different needs and if you've never done a custom seat before, you may not even know what you need, odd as it sounds. You know you're not comfortable, but don't know what will make it better. If you send your seat to a customizer (vs. buying one with a new seat pan from Corbin, for instance), if you don't get it right, you're then stuck with not much options except starting over with a new seat again since they've sacrificed yours as the donor. Personally, I find my stock seat fine (just not as pretty as a Corbin with some pretty piping), but I only ride single - if I had a passenger, I'd have to re-think the back rest issue, etc.
I'm used to riding sports bikes so the Spyder, stock, seems like a really upright ride for me and totally comfortable reach/position. Like the others have said - ride it for a bit before you jump in too deep. You can always add a bit at a time later.
IMO since we ride all but a few weeks of the year (we only get snow for a few days a year and ride if it's warmer than about 17 degrees) my first purchase would be a Synergy heated jacket liner to plug into that 12v. accessory plug. You can wear a much less bulky coat with the liner under it and be toasty warm. Since you're getting your bike late in the season you're going to want to ride it as long as possible. If you're warm, you're relaxed and that translates into smooth, comfortable riding.

In order of value - mirror extensions, Kewl metal, 4" riser from NMN, , slider windscreen from Marcel, triple play NMN, Fog Lights Evoluzione
