• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am 200 miles from home fortunately at a hotel. My spider (manual transmission) will only go 4 o 5 miles per hour and that is irrelevant of what gear I shift into.. No error message shows, it just won't go... its very dark out so I can't see much now but will check more closely in the morning.. the belt looks intact.. ANY DEAS ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR?? [/I]

Could this be a bad gas problem (water). Sun Sports in Ft.Myers on E. Colonial is the dealer and are open on Sat. Phone no.239-277-7777 ask for service. I have only had mine for a week.I am still in the learning mode. J W Miller

What do your RPM's do when you give it gas? Does it seem normal in neutral as far as RPM's go?

Since you say it doesn't matter what gear you are in, it sounds like you may have a clutch problem. Do you notice much of a difference when you pull the clutch in ?

help

hey firefly, was thinking clutch as well, but not sure as too the speed they were getting, if you read the post, that is why the question was asked. good call, but still no answer. will wait n see.:chat:

Yeah-- that confused me too.

top speed

4 TO 5 miles per hour is top speed, rpm goes up when you accelerate but not speed, still runs slowly at 2000 rpm or less

Clutch slipping, which could be either be in the clutch or the clutch assist solenoid, or blown drive sprocket splines. That's my guess, anyhow. If it is not just the clutch assist solenoid, which can probably be disconnected, you are stranded. The other problems will require dealer assistance. Sorry to hear the bad news! :(

If it's blown splines on a RT it would be the first I've heard of. It's got to be the clutch. Sounds to me like it's not releasing all the way.

I vote for the splines. One question, "is there any noise?" This is what happened to me. Was told last night by the dealers that the splines on the sprocket and the drive shaft are both damaged and this means both have to be replaced. This will involve taking out the engine to replace the drive shaft. $2500 :yikes: Not covered by the warranty.

You have a 2008 RS and he has a low mile 2010 RT, that's why I doubt it is the splines.

thank you

thanks for the input everyone.. I tried all the basic stuff and no luck. On a more fortunate note, the Spyder went kaput only four blocks from a Can Am dealer even though I am 200 miles from home. The bike is in the shop awaiting its turn for diagnostics.. I am hoping is it clutch not splines and there is no noise or grinding so some support for that theory..

slipping

Check front sprocket bolt , they are known to be loose , found my wife SM front sprocket loose, if loose enough could strip.

I talked to him yesterday and the dealer never even looked at it and they are not open on Monday. He had a BIG toy run to go to today and he was able to rent a Harley trike for the cost on the insurance just for today so he could make the run.

That would score:
BRP Dealer- NO :helpsmilie::gaah:

Harley Dealer- BIG :helpsmilie::2thumbs:

If I were him I would trailer it back to his dealer. nojoke

I live fairly close to BikerDoc. Bout a 30 to 40 minute drive. If you're back home in Clermont, you're more than welcome to use my utility trailer to get it back home. Just let me know.

typical, i have never even heard off ever that any bike dealer or even sole bike mechanic let their own or unknown biker down, they also advertise an emergency number to call when shop is closed. This is very very significant and totaly unsuprising what most Spyder Dealers do to us and especialy if repair under warranty has to be done.

.........you remember Lamont, not that long time ago you started a Thread - how long is a Spyder in service? now my Spyder was in service for almost 4 months for work which could be done in 2 days. We were all asking what is the longest time by BRP book , Spyder should be out back on road, i am not sure we ever got that one sorted but we kinda all agreed that anything over 2 weeks is too long. Now my Spyder is in service again for slipping clutch and possible ECU replacement, three weeks gone by now and last update is that they have an Clutch assembly in and going to do it tommorow and then test ride it by BRP people and let them decide what's next.
btw- what is clutch assembly and what it takes to replace it ? :gaah:

RT hauler

Hal,
I have an RT hauler if you decide to haul it back home. I will be available after 4pm tomorrow as that is when I get out of work. I can come to you and we can load up and haul the RT to Clearmont.
I know how it can be when you are stranded away from home with no help.
Call and let me know if I can assist. 863-873-7002
