There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Help me plan my trip home from SpyderQuest

In September I will be going to SpyderQuest in Lake George, NY. On my way home, back to Texas, I want to stop at some interesting cities with history, etc. Last year, on my way home, I stopped in Washington DC and loved it! I'd even consider going back!

So, the only plans I currently have is I will be travelling from Lake George, NY to NYC to drop my wife off at the airport to fly back to DFW. From there, I'd like some input on where to go... I'm thinking Baltimore or Washington DC (again), but locals know best... give me your input for 1 to 2 places for a 1 day stop.

Thanks!!

May I suggest Gettysburg, Pa? You can do the battlefield, tour the town and the new museum. Even take a bus ride to the Eisenhower Farm. It's really not out of the way if you're going toward Baltimore. There is also Harper's Ferry about 40 minutes southwest of Gettysburg.

If you go to Harper's Ferry, don't expect a Ferry though. You could go to Williamsburg, VA and Richmond or if you take a more northern route Springfield, IL is a good stop.

I don't what you like to do, but in Baltimore there is the inner Harbor. You could time your visit out and see a Baltimore orioles game. If you come further south down my way, you can visit the historic triangle Jamestown Williamsburg Yorktown. You could also visit Busch Gardens Williamsburg. These being just a few ideas for you.

RAIN GEAR

BRING RAIN GEAR....
I'VE BEEN TO LAKE GEORGE NO LESS THAN 30 TIMES.... AND IT'S RAINED EVERY FREAK'n TIME....
AS FOR THINGS TO SEE ON YOUR WAY BACK,
GREENVILLE, SC, MAY BE A BIT OUT OF YOUR WAY.... BUT IT'S CONSIDERED IN THE TOP SIX SMALL CITIES TO VISIT IN AMERICA.... LOTS OF EATERIES, AND WE HAVE THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS JUST NORTH OF US... DRAGONS TAIL ISN'T TOO FAR AWAY... LOTS OF GREAT ROADS TO RIDE IN THIS AREA....

Our group Maryland Spyder Web, will be at the event and planning a great route back to MD/DC. If you would like the idea, I can connect you with the president or Vice President of the group.

Dan, come on back, it only rained only 1/2 hour for spyderquest 1 and maybe a total of I day for # 2. Maybe you shouldn't cause it seems you might have bad luck with weather.:roflblack::roflblack:

[SUB]Dan,
as an upstater from ny lake George area the only weather that lasts longer than a few hours is winter, upstate is one of the few areas where you use the heat in the morning and the ac in the afternoon

I was gonna say go to Quebec City or Ottawa, but you are not going the right way.
Also you should go with your wife, not alone. so that's for another time.

Anyway, see you at SpyderQuest.

Just a thought

How about heading west from DC to Front Royal, VA where you can get on Skyline Dr. and ride through Shenandoah Nat'l Park until you come the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC for another 3-400 mile ride of a lifetime. Might take you 2-3 days sightseeing. Wonderful.

I second the recommendation to visit the Gettysburg battlefield. The NPS poured boatloads of $$$ into the park for the sesquicentennial anniversary after it had been left to rot for too many years and it is truly beautiful.

On the way from Gettysburg visit Antietam. The horror of those two battles is for me still so hard to grasp.

For some very scenic riding consider Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

You won't lack for some wonderful riding. Good luck!

If you've never been to Gettysburg, I would also suggest a visit there. I will even be your guide for a day. Just send me a PM if you decide this to be an option. Also, someone else recommended the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway from Northern Virginia through North Carolina. That would be a great ride on the Spyder!

If you go to Gettysburg it's not too far down to Front Royal Va and the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. At the end of the BRP is Cherokee NC, Maggie Valley and the Wheels Through Time Museum is near there as well. Ashville also has a lot of history like the Biltmore Estate. Then you could head west to Memphis or south to Chattanooga. Sounds fun!

I like that idea... my wife informed me 1-day in NYC is not enough so I actually considered switching directions and having her fly out of Quebec! But, I'll have my father- & mother-in-law on their Spyder, so better keep the direction relatively pointed back towards Texas!!

But I'm thinking about it... we need to get up their and visit ya'll (how's that for Texan)... what's the best month to visit without having to layer up?

Thank you to all... it sounds like Gettysburg is a must-see! I'm travelling with my father-in-law also, so I know he had mentioned Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive... so I think I need to sit down with him and see how this route ties together!

I may take a couple of you up on picking your brains or being a tour-guide when the time comes! And I'm a foodie, so I like finding the best local food to try... I actually drove through a town in Tennessee last year for the sole purpose of trying their local bbq... did that with Memphis a couple of years ago to go to Rendezvous!

Thank you for your help.

As you know, you are welcome anytime.

Best time is July/August if you don't want to layer up. But after SpyderQuest is also a good time as that's when the leaf start changing.
As for the foodie part goes, you will have the best poutine around here.

WHY TRAVEL ALL THE WAY INTO NEW YORK CITY ?? USE THE ALBANY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, APPROX 35 MILES SOUTH OF LAKE GEORGE FOR YOUR WIFES FLIGHT. NEW YORK CITY IS A NIGHTMARE TRAFFIC WISE
AND NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA ONLY COMPOUNDS THE PROBLEM. JUST A THOUGHT !!
