• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Help Me Decide!

My Spyder has over 15,000 miles on it and has only been in the shop 3 times --- for scheduled maintenance only. All the updates were done at those times.

:agree: I wouldn't buy a 2008 UNLESS you can still have a good couple years of warranty on it... just my opinion.

You wouldn't want mine as I beat the living crap outta it....:D:2thumbs:

Agreed. The risk factor is higher with an 08, but so is the potential savings. Everything has a trade-off. You have to take it 1 machine at a time and not be in too big a hurry.

When buying a vehicle it's best to relax, take a deep breath and let the brain do its job.

Usually, you can tell right away by the look of the machine and the demeanor of the seller (and the other machines they own) if they are a thrasher or a care'er. Then go from there. Always be prepared to walk away, and always be prepared to pull the trigger. Balancing those 2 is the trick.

We have a 2008 SE5 with over 40K miles. I will try and remember what it was in the shop for:

Updates as they came out
Warranty replacement of rear brake caliper and pads
Spark plugs and air filter changed at 26K (along with a few minor fixes)
Twice for rear tires
Once for front tires
Rear bearings (hub)
Rear pulley bearings
Warranty replacement of rear fender brackets

We took a trip last summer where we drove 300-500 miles every day for 7.5 weeks. Didn't change oil during the trip. Took 2 quarts overall. Burned 2 tail light bulbs and license plate bulb. Replaced them with Long Life Heavy Duty. Also burned a headlight with 750 hours of running time...replaced both at the same time.

I change my own oil every 5000 miles along with the filter.

Wow this information is great, you have some very good points.
I do notice that the 2008's are less expensive but the risk is greater. Is the DPS thing the maim concern as far as recalls or upgrades go? So I can ask the owner what's been done and know that he's covered everything.
Dudley, that's just plain amazing!!!
