• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Help, Frunk stuck closed

My wife's new RT Limited has the Frunk closed and locked and we can't get it open. He backpack with all her ID is in there. I did a search and it seems this is not an uncommon problem, but I did not find an answer as how to get it open. Any help available out there?

Most of the time I have to press down firmly on the top of my frunk lid while turning the key or triggering the release in order for it to open

I have tried both the key and the release button. I have tried pushing down gently then hard, pulling up gently, then hard all while trying the button and the key switch.

I pried the frunk up gently from either side and looked in with a flashlight and I am not able to see any reason for it to be stuck nor can I see enough of the release catch to be able to catch with a bent coat hanger or push on with a small wood dowel.

If I first push down on the lid I can hear the solenoid when the switch is pushed.

If it worked before and it must of because her stuff is in there I would say you got something caught in the latch. I would have her turn the key while you lifted the lid as close to the middle as you can and see if you can pop it loose. :dontknow:

Thanks Lamonster,
We tried that. I pulled to the point I was afraid I might break the plastic. I'll have to just wait until I can get it to the dealer.

Thanks to all who answered my post.

I guess the cable could have popped off the clip. Don't know if this helps but this is what you're looking at. If you could get the top panel off enough to tug on that cable it should release.

Thanks Lamonster,
The picture helps. i was able to hook the bent coat hanger over the latch where the cable connects but still could not open it. I pulled hard enough to straighten out he hook.

If you could hear the solenoid trying to move things around when you pushed down, I'd take a stab at having somebody twist the key while you applied some downward force to take the strain off of the locking system... (Just my wild guess! :D)

Well, I took the wife's Spyder to the dealer yesterday afternoon. They were able to get the frunk open by pressing down very hard on the lid and operating switch. I had tried this myself to the point that I was afraid I was going to break the lid. I guess just not quite enough. My wife had 2 helmets in the frunk and since it take quite a bit of pressure to close it normally, she didn't notice the extra effort needed because of closing on the too high helmets.

The staff at Elk Grove Power Sports were very friendly and helpful and did not charge me to open the frunk even though it was not a warranty situation. They even washed the Spyder for me. Great bunch of guys and gals there.

Thanks to all of the responses to my post.

If you lubricate the latch pin and the bearclaw contact surfaces, the trunk will usually open more easily if something presses against the lid. Some silicone grease on a Q-Tip is my choice for this. There are other suitable lubricants. Just don't use a spray or liquid. They dry too quickly, making frequent application necessary.

Thanks scotty,
I was thinking along those lines as all of the latches on the new RT seem to be stiff and hard working. I was planning to use a Moly type grease mainly because that is what I have and I have seen car dealers use that on car door latches.

I wouldn't use moly grease either there, or on car door latches. No products containing graphite, either. Moly and graphite stains do not come out with dynamite! Too easy to brush against a latch or pin and ruin your jacket, etc. That's why I like silicone, but there are other products that are suitable, including the one recommended by BRP.
