• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. HELP! Bike shuts off after recall

Took my bike in for recall work. I had melting parts. The only bike out of 7 that had a problem. Replaced master cylinder, vapor canister, installed heat shield and wrapped pipes. Also put insulation on both sides of the bike. Picked it up, no problems until I stopped and turned the bike off. It would start but stall and shut off. It did this three times before it finally went into first gear and started to move. I had rode the bike appx. an hour. Today I rode for about an hour and 15 minutes. Stopped and turned the bike off. It did not want to start. Finally started, put it in 1st gear went about 4 feet it stalled out. I repeated this procedure about 5 times. The bike made a sound like the front end was vibrating or shaking. It finally stalled and would not start again. I called my dealer. He came, brought the computer and hooked it up. It did not show any codes. And of course it cranked when he was there, but it had an hour to cool off. He told me it sounded as if I had purchased some bad gas and he recommended I put some Seafoam in the tank. Does anyone have an idea of what is really going on? I plan to leave Monday on a trip to the mountains for 5 days. Now I am afraid to make the trip. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Daisy, have your dealer check the purge valve. I experienced the same stalling and rough idling and the purge valve was bad. Good luck.

Throw another vote on the, "purge valve" pile...
Although if they were digging around in there; could they have not hooked things back up nice and solid??

Thank you SLs. It was indeed the purge valve. It seems it does not throw a code if it is the purge valve. I am planning on leaving Monday for a trip to the mountains so this site once again proved its value. What would we do without this website?? You are awesome people.

Fast..!!

that was fast didn't get my 2¢ in...glad your good to go on the trip..enjoy and be safe..!!

With all I've heard about this purge valve so far, I think I'm gonna pick me up a spare or two.

Is this the culprit that makes the bike smell like gas after a long ride also?

That's probably just the fumes that have collected in the canister...

I never smelled gas. The only fumes I experienced actually smelled like exhaust fumes. I rode it home this afternoon. The bike seems to run a lot smoother. No more rough idling.
